X-59 flight delayed to 2024

True. I honestly don’t think it would bother me, at least during the day. But then again I am a nerd for planes, and I live in a city so it’s loud all day anyway

What are these two protruding plates on the back of the F-16? What purpose do they serve?

Horizon had a jump seater try to shut down the engines

Posted by legimpster@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 559 comments

Meatcube77@reddit

I don’t think that would be a likely outcome really… it’s no more likely a jump seater is going to go crazy than a member of the flight crew. This way there’s more people to subdue that loon

Convair Model 200 VTOL. Even though it never flew or built but this is actually the exact plane where the F-35B and most of all the Russian Yak-141 gets their inspiration on VTOL technology.

When airlines retire A380s will we see any as freightliners?

Posted by exxxtramint@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 101 comments

Meatcube77@reddit

The a380 overall seems like an extremely poorly designed and managed project from the business sense. Destined wrong for the evolution of passenger transport, and not versatile enough to be used for cargo. I really think they would have come close to saving the program if they developed a freighter conversion simultaneously

"Give way to the heavy" not what I was expecting.

There has been a lot in the way of money too actually. Including just recently - stuff to help fund the operation of Ukrainian government among other things

I mean idk why they would rebuild it. Far easier to use retired existing widebodies I would think. Is it possible or fiscally reasonable to convert an a380 or two?

Airline pilots, does it feel like “traveling” when you fly — or is it strictly “work”?

So, totally understand. My uneducated question is, if the plane is stable enough to fly unlimited for 70 miles or whatever (probably 10 minutes of flight or so?) would it not be safer for the civilians if the pilot maybe either pointed the plane down towards a forest or rode it out longer? Idk the area but feel like wkrh 70 miles range it could easily land in a downtown or something

Logically I know this would be true. But as someone who can’t (at least easily) get a PPL even, and loves aviation, it still sounds really really cool compared to working on the program office desk job side

Just feels like you’re buying the wrong airframe if you need to throw two seats, conformals, and the tech spine on a f16. Just buy an F15 or something

Delta is reportedly paying it's most senior pilots $590k ($1m with 401(k) and profit sharing). Is this true and if so, how long would it take to get there from zero time?
