I went on the thetrainline website the other day and was briefly concerned about the insane prices, til i remembered my VPN was set to Albania. Bonus is, no YouTube ads, or ads on the podcasts I listen to through Spotify.

Out of interest (as I live there) was that in Valencia city, or elsewhere in the Comunidad? We're close to the city (Horta Sud) and haven't had any issues speaking only castellano. But maybe that's because there are lots of fellow immigrants here, many from Spanish-speaking S.American countries. I wondered if it's different in towns that are more traditionally Valencian/fewer "outsiders"

Still living in Spain. Pros: Food, drink, vibes, weather (Sept-June), public spaces, museums/galleries/etc, safety, old town areas, trains (high speed). Special mention: first time I was invited to a paella cookout in the countryside Cons: Dealing with the government for anything, weather (July-Aug), falleros street parties (Valencia), trains (local), new buildings (horrific quality standards). Special mention: the fucking Hacienda/TGSS

Yeah, tax free allowance here (Spain) is about £4,500 (depending on the exchange rate) Over that, 19% tax, and then it steps up more than in the UK 24% bracket starts at around £10.5k 30% at £17k 37% at £29k 45% at £50k 47% over £250k (salaries in GBP at roughly today's exchange rates) So if you're on 12,500 in the UK - no income tax, whereas in Spain you're already in 2 different brackets.

According to my research (American TV and movies) breakfast is a kind of performance piece where one person - most often a woman - prepares and cooks an expansive menu of eggs, bacon, pancakes, freshly squeezed OJ, coffee, fruits, yoghurt, cereals and so forth, every day. Then each member of the family descends separately from their bedroom looking flustered and rushed. They take a single bite of one piece of food, and a single swallow of one of the drinks, apologise and depart. The next day, they inexplicably repeat the whole charade.
