It's outter London but I visited Woolwich once and the difference between the new builds along the river, and the original part of Woolwich is insane. I'd never seen such glaring wealth disparity in such a small area, it's nearly comical.

Do you think the housing situation would be better if moving wasn't so expensive?

Our entire housing system and the law around it is so archaic and inefficient honestly. We need to copy a lot of the Scottish laws on it.

It's the bloody megaphones and speakers, as well as yelling. You shouldn't be able to scream your head off, or rant down a megaphone on high street for hours a day.

Thank you for asking and trying, it's very admirable. That being said, if you said 'Give me xxx' to anyone it'd likely make them incredibly angry. It takes no extra effort to say please. The number 1 tip I can give is never, ever, ask or demand without a please as a bare minimum.

Who else can we turn to with regards to an antisocial neighbour?

Posted by Any-Wash-315@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 57 comments

JLP99@reddit

We need actual, strict and enforceable anti-social behaviour laws in relation to living in the UK. It's a joke that a neighbour can make everyone's lives hell but the minute anyone does anything to protect or defend themselves they get treated like the perpetrator.

Definitely, it's legal racketeering. I've a pre-existing health condition now so I literally can never get covered again by any health insurer for that issue. It's very unethical.

Why should we is the question I'd ask? They've plundered improving their infrastructure for years to pay themselves profits.  It feels very similar to what big oil companies do, they destroy the planet, then tell you to look at your carbon footprint.

Civil Trespass: Generally, parking on someone's property without permission is considered a civil trespass, meaning the property owner can pursue legal action to address the issue, such as seeking an injunction or compensation for losses.  HOWEVER:  Criminal Offense (with conditions): The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 created a new offense for residing on land with a vehicle without consent, and if significant damage, disruption, or distress is caused.  Police Powers: The Act also grants police powers to direct trespassers to leave land and remove their vehicles, and to seize and remove property, including vehicles, associated with the trespass.  Reasonable Excuse: A defense to the new offense exists if the person has a reasonable excuse for being on the land.  Consequences: If convicted, individuals can face imprisonment for up to three months, a fine, or both.  12-Month Ban: Individuals directed to leave land under the 1994 Act must not return for 12 months.  I'm not a lawyer so I may be wrong, but I believe they passed these changes specifically because of gypsies. Good luck!

No worries, wish you the best. The police for example have the power to remove caravans on land, I'll go and find the law and come back. You also can apply for a court order, it's very common. I'd advice gathering as a village to pay for some legal advice maybe if you needed that. Also, consider going to the press and media, you've got to shame the police into doing their job half the time sadly.

Is there anyway of escalating complaints to the police if they aren't doing anything? A lot of councils have organisations that are supposed to be intermediaries between gypsies and the local community. The police 100 percent have the jurisdiction to deal with this, but they're typically under resourced, too scared, too incompetent or too lazy to deal with gypsies as unlike most groups they'll actually fight back when challenged. I feel like your best bet is to drag the police and council into a dialogue and if they don't budge start escalating via their channels.

Why is there no date? Surely this is quite a straightforward change. The fact they are dialoguing with the companies and the amount of time it is taking makes me feel like they really don't want to crack down on it for some reason.

Does this not seem unfair? Surely you should want to talk to a legal professional before saying anything, even if you are innocent to understand the situation and what potential outcomes there are. It adds this unnecessary pressure imo.

I don't have much to add other than that I agree it's a tragedy. The only idea I have is the following: All land in the UK (I don't know if it's just England and Wales or includes NI and Scotland as well) is technically all owned by the crown. There is therefore a strong historical and legal culture of almost all land in England being privately owned property. If almost all land was made 'public' in the UK it'd undermine the concept that all land is actually owned by the crown. IDK though that could all be complete bollocks.

Like many problems in this country, there is a lack of enforcement. There is only so much being afraid of being judged will do. The sort of scrotes that do this could not give less of a fuck about you tutting at them fromt across the room and so it will continue until rules and penalties are enforced.

It's such a shame, because whichever party finally radically reforms the NHS will commit political suicide so we all have to keep going along pretending the current situation is solveable. I don't know why we don't copy a mixed system like Germany or France? I'm fairly sure France has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. But can you imagine the headlines? 'a betrayal worse than 1066, selling out the NHS to copy the French frogs' or smth like that.

Just in case anything did go wrong. I appreciate it might not be often, but it is infuriating when a company has no available email address and you have to gaslight a robot into letting you talk to someone. I would like a provider where it is easily available to get in contact with a human.
