I'm literally trying to save them time from having to calculate a proper quote by getting an estimate but whatever I was literally self employed and made the business info a company I directed and it employed other people, so what do I know about hard work and keeping customers happy 😭🤣

My walls are the nice and easy one, 1 light switch and 3 power sockets, other than that dead straight, so surely you can put it together in your head and realise why I'm surprised I can't even get an approx quote without waiting two days

Doesn't explain why it still takes days to get the actual quote some times but I actually understand this. On the flip side, I've worked in sales, it's much easier to build/ sell the value of the product / work in person than over email but I respect thats not for everyone.

Think it was yes for PVA (or some sort adhesive/glue), minimal patching, no loose plaster or boards, all walls are brick walls, I've removed the wallpaper on the walls and this just replastering I do get what you're saying

I have worked in jobs where I've had to measure property and give quotes, it's in another reply. Not asking for specifics, even an approx is fine so if it's a ridiculous price or clearly out of my budget we can both save time and if not get a proper quote the next day as they would anyways

Exactly it's not like he does 5 different trades and may not have done plastering for a few weeks, it's literally all they do. It's Iike a baker not being able to say how much the bread they make every day will cost tomorrow. If the baker quotes me £50 for a bread for next week I can say no thanks and leave straight away. If he says approx £2.50 but will give you a proper quote tomorrow once I've looked the price of the flour, and it turns out to be £2.70 totally normal! But at least in the £50 situation we both saved time.

Damn I didn't expect that uno card I've had more than seven companies/ trades men in the last year come to quote and never got one one the day so I don't know If the quote is reasonable then yes as I usually contact the most highly recommended first and then contact the next if its too expensive or out of the budget, quality over cheapness every time

I've clearly got very unpopular opinions 🤣 I just want to save both parties time, give me a guestimate that may be 10-20% at the worse case and if it clearly too expensive or I can't afford it then I'll save both of us time and if it's good then get the proper quote the day after

That is a ridiculous non-point The glass and plaster were different companies and it's literally what they specialise in and do every single day, so for a standard job yes I would expect the ice cream maker to know what the cost of milk and vanilla is that day or at least be able to say around £x if you want to proceed I'll get you a proper quote on my next admin day

But the second/ proper quote would be a written one, the only difference is I could've saved them some hassle by knowing if it quite obviously out of my budget or they're ridiculously expensive

On the second point, always follow up a verbal quote/ agreement with a written one email/ text confirmation Said it above but this is literally four walls that need plastering, there's no surprises if they do this every day they know how much to charge per m2

Honestly wouldn't mind a guesstimate followed by an estimate, in some cases the gestinatw will be enough to say okay we can't afford it now and I don't want to waste your time working out a quote for this job

Answered in another reply but it's literally just plastering and the other time just replacing the glass of the window. Completely understand if these were complex jobs but they aren't 🤷‍♂️ haven't got to explain why there aren'tany costs to calculate when replacing just the glass of a window but with plastering the room is empty and the walls need plastering, surely someone who does this everyday knows the cost per m2 to charge for a standard basic job

What? I mean why can't they give you a quote there and then, completely understand the fact they have to look at their diaries when it comes to booking and actual date

I'm literally only have the glass replaced and separately four walls plastered, unless they've just come out of retirement this is a pretty easy calculation to do and one they are doing on a daily basis, so yeah
