Breathing new life into my old Miata.

She’s too clean of a survivor that I think I’ll keep it stock or as close to stock for as long as I can. That way if the next owner wants to do a complete restoration on it they’ll be able to do it easily. I need to sort out an engine leak next and go over suspension, get new tires and most of the fluids changed. Maybe a supercharger some day down the road, but I’ve already got one V8 in my 4Runner. I think two of them would bankrupt me with fuel cost.

Thank you! It was a travesty that those were covered up with cheap hub caps. First thing I did was remove them. Eventually I will repaint the steelies in two tone finish. Probably black inside bowl, with silver outer rim.

Up next I still have to do a final wet sanding to even out the clear coat and then buff her. Just bought my first buffer for Christmas (DeWalt DWP849X), real excited to give it a try. Also have a new Robbins convertible top ready to install in the coming year, along with new seat skins from MrMikes Upholstery.

My winter project. Lots of work ahead for this V8 beast.

Best bang for the buck as far as upgrades go. Got the 3M restoration kit for under $13 on sale from Amazon. The stock headlights look way better than I expected. Highly recommend and anyone can do this one.

I want this car so badly.. instant classic. I won’t pay a dime over MSRP so I doubt I’ll be able to buy one in the next few years or maybe ever, but damn is it the most excited I’ve been over any new car from the last 15-20 years.

I was going to guess a vintage Mercedes. Good luck with your project, I hope you get it running smoothly. It’s a really sweet looking car! I’ve got a 1992 Miata, 5 speed, no AC or power steering. Drove about 4 hours each way to pick it up. Really not a bad or long trip. The peace of mind you get by checking it out in person is well worth the afternoon you’re going to lose, OP.

Yup, been watching them for about ten years too. Ever since I owned my 95 basic plain Celica, not even the GT. The aesthetic made me fall in love and when I learned there’s an AWD turbo version of it out there I knew I’d have to own one someday.

Speaking of YouTube car guys breaking laws. I always wonder how they don’t get in trouble recording themselves driving like maniacs on public roads for their content. They’re always speeding and driving recklessly, drifting and uploading the proof of it weekly. Is that not blatant evidence of a crime being committed? I’d be scared of the cops knocking on my door at any moment if I were doing that.

Just saw this post and wanted to share but some others have already pointed to it. I’d go this route, seems like a fun and cheap project https://reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/s/OSi55uWTwL

How Much To Initially Spend

In my experience there are some amazing cars to be found in the $2,500-5,000 range. From there on expect to spend at least that much more getting everyting sorted and adding a few smaller mods.

The red steelies are badass! I'm debating color choices for my white NA Miata with steelies and red is a bit too bold for my build. But they sure do look great on yours!
