Would you judge someone for holding a knife and fork in the ‘wrong’ hands?

Couldn't give a shit. Most etiquette is just secret meaningless rules so that posh people can pretend to be superior to people who don't know the rules. As long as you eat with your mouth closed you're cool Also, does your wife consider all left handed people to have bad manners?

Does anyone have any frying pan recommendations?

It can't very well be worse than the way it's been ringing privately. No investment, not even getting basic service, and hanfing over millions to shareholders and useless management

No. It doesn't work like that. There's a reason foreign government's have invested in our railways while having nationalised at home!! The whole concept of privatised trains is nonsense since there can be no competition .

I suppose I don't understand why people think buying even the real brands would make people think they are cultured or classy.   It makes me think they've no style of their own, or they are very prone to trying to follow the crowd to the extent that they'll select clothes or bags entirely based on the word printed on them I say that as a person with no real interest in fashion though.  It all seems very much like trying to buy "cool" instead of just acting it

If you look in the window of a shop like Prada, you see they only sell the one pattern. Bags, shoes, etc. It couldn't be clearer. They are saying "buy this item to be seen having bought whatever shoe or bag we are currently shifting. You have no preference or taste, you'll just buy whatever we tell you is cool so we don't even give you options." It is nothing more than buying a badge that that says "I'm part of the cool gang", except, of course, following the crowd isn't cool.

Every Xmas when the perfume ads start on tele, I think of this. What can a perfume or aftershave really do to sell itself? "Buy this it smells nice"? No, they don't know what you like the smell of. Better to say "buy this, other people will like how you smell".  But even better, and I think this is the essence of fashion,  they just show you someone "cool" or sexy reciting a poem in a field or whatever. The message is simply "Look, Johnny Depp is using this. Buy it and imagine that makes you a bit cooler in some way". Fashion is all this way. The cool, desirable person has started wearing a red scarf. Well then I'll do the same. It won't make me cool or attractive because it's a scarf, and following the herd is the least cool thing you can possibly do, but I'll feel that at least that little element of me has prior approval by cool people.

I don't think it's unreasonable to not understand why people buy such things. I've never understood it either, really or fake. No need to be insecure about it, just explain why you do buy these things, which is all the poster is looking to understand.

Only things that are naturally vegan, like veg noodles or whatever.  Things that are altered to make them vegan seem to be universally rank, unhealthy, or both

What you describe is definitely not usual. Women saying sensually inappropriate or exist things about men is very much accepted still but for men to say such things is taboo.  I've worked in offices with large female populations for decades and sexual/sexist conversations are common.

Gasblaster2000@reddit

I think Sweden is generally thought of as quite remote and very different from us but not in a bad way. Blonde and beautiful stereotypes of the people. Perhaps a bit bland is as a society due to being seen as quite a conformist society? I've no idea how much of this is common opinion and not just what I've somehow made up though!

Do real Cockney gangsters still exist, or were the wool-coat, nan-loving hardmen just a product of Guy Ritchie films and British folklore?

Gasblaster2000@reddit

They exist but the romanticised version you're describing of "only hurt other gangsters, kept the streets safe, loved their nan" was always bollocks. They're just violent scumbags like any others

Town centre clubbing has been dying for a decade. It was always shit though and being able to stay in a pub I think killed the need to queue fir some shitty town club hellhole. Proper clubbing and raving may or may not be thriving. I'm now too old to know
