Did you watch the episode where David the Gnome and his wife Lisa die? They randomly aired this before school in the 1980's... That was not a good day lol

We’ve all heard of teen boys/men’s porn consumption habits during the pre-internet era. But what did women use to get off back in the day?

These comments are blowing my mind. I honestly and truly had no idea girls could masturbate until I read some line about how a woman with my astrological sign must have invented massaging shower heads, when I was about 18. The theory checks out. From a young age, I had watched tons of adult channels (unscrambled), saw magazines, and read clan of the cave bear, and was just perpetually suffering with lady boners. I guess everything was so focused on men that I thought you needed one. I wish I had known. But I probably would have never left my room.

Saw this in the millennial thread and the comments weren’t quite the same as they will be in this sub..

I asked the millennial sub about fighting as a young person and the majority are saying they rarely if ever saw fights at school.

Well always talk about things that have gotten worse since our youth, but what's gotten better?

Open discussion and change in women’s issues and the treatment of girls and women. I am so grateful my daughters will have a different experience. It’s not perfect, but treating periods, sex, and menopause as taboo was bullshit. Also glad we have moved past “he picks on you because he likes you” and blaming women for enticing men to rape them. We’ve come a long way, baby!

Do you remember a tv show or movie that you saw as a child that you shouldn’t have been watching due to it being mature content.

Mom worked nights, slept days and we had the full lineup of X rated channels. Elementary school me was definitely underinformed and way way overexposed. But I guess we have the whole internet to scar today’s youth!?

That’s such a sad description of your relationship with your parents. I’m really sorry. I lived with my depression era grandparents after being a latchkey kid throughout elementary school…so yeah. It went from detached to just staying in an extra room basically. I’m not sure what a real family feels like, but I hope my kiddos do.

This could be touchy but please read the comment for more context, I just want to see if I'm remembering wrong. When I was in HS, not only was it normal to hear about 15 and 16 year olds dating guys in their 20's, but the girls that did were "cool"

I married my “high school sweetheart” we met when I was a freshman in HS and he was a senior and were casual friends. Started dating my Senior year. We’re only 2 years apart in age though. It was definitely normal and definitely cool. Pretty much every girl I knew dated an older guy who wasn’t in HS any more. The mall kiosk creepers, the cell phone and shoe store 20 year olds that worked and didn’t go to school. We were dumb. I distinctly remember my friend bragging about how this navy guy was pounding her so hard she was getting UTIs and kidney infections. The Navy bases near us were a hotbed. Soooo many girls dated military while they were still in school. As a mom of a high schooler, this is terrifying to think about.

4thing this sentiment. I thought this was a strange movie about how it turns out that people love a singing monkey more than a man. Because men suck? Now I’m more confused than before.

Most of you will pick the DeLorean is my guess. I’m stuck between the knight rider and mad max.

Are we the last generation to largely believe in ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me’?

Adding to clarify, I’m thinking of this more in terms of one off interactions, not within relationships or patterns of behavior. Please don’t come for me. Everyone deserves respect and kindness. But some people go into the world assuming the worst and approaching things with victim mentality.

Yes. And bullying/verbal abuse is absolutely harmful, cruel, damaging. BUT we have also swung the other way where people take things as a *personal* attack when they shouldn’t, wasting their own emotions and energy. Sometimes things actually are not about you, and/or the person saying them is just angry, awful, mistaken, misinformed, or whatever and doesn’t deserve your energy/reaction/attention.

Coming to terms with having genuinely bad parents, as you watch you friends raise their kids.
