Why do some British people stop talking to me after I say I am from Taiwian?

ExpressAffect3262@reddit

>As to why they start talking to you about Japan and Korea, maybe just ignorance. Not really ignorance, really depends on OPs age and who they are talking to. K-Pop is very popular with kids/teens etc. I can't see OP walking into Greggs, talking to a 42 year old woman, and them saying "I can't wait to move to Japan, I love K-Pop so much!".

What do you think about those "doomed UK town walking tour"- videos?

ExpressAffect3262@reddit

I saw one on our town, and I feel 50/50 about it. It naturally highlights the ugliness of a lot of closed shops and untidy areas, But then it blows everything out of proportion. Yearly, we get a gold award for our flora (potted/bedded etc). The guy did a tour before it was planting season and mocked how we have a gold but every planter is empty. Some tiny squiggle on a wall by some teen? "Graffiti is absolutely everywhere and it is atrocious!"

Hahaha, that has made me laugh. I am genuinely interested in what I've said in the past to give you the impression that I'm far-right. I always love it when people dig into history and tell me what I do. "Oh bro, you play Runescape". Like yeah, no shit, I'm active in the community, is that supposed to be an insult? You appear to just argue about politics on a daily basis on Reddit, so I will take an even smaller pinch of salt.

What’s your thoughts on the TV licence, do you pay it and have you ever been caught?

Posted by Straight-Strategy724@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 276 comments

ExpressAffect3262@reddit

I don't watch TV any more but my wife does and pays for it. Its like £13/month, near enough the same as other services like Netflix and Disney+, but my wife watches TV daily, so seems value. I do hate however when they fuck around with the schedules. When you first get into TV licenses, you are essentially paying 2x the price for 6 months, to "make it easier next year". Feel free to correct me but it works something like this: Jan 24 = £26 Feb 24 = £26 Mar 24 = £26 Apr 24 = £26 May 24 = £26 Jun 24 = £26 Jul 24 = £13 Aug 24 = £13 Sep 24 = £13 Oct 24 = £13 Nov 24 = £13 Dec 24 = £13 Because you paid 2x for 6 months in 2024, this carries over to 2025 Jan 25 = £13 Feb 25 = £13 Mar 25 = £13 Apr 25 = £13 May 25 = £13 Jun 25 = £13 Jul 25 = £13 Aug 25 = £13 Sep 25 = £13 Oct 25 = £13 Nov 25 = £13 Dec 25 = £13 So if you stop requiring it, you then have to go through the hassle of getting back that £78 you paid extra?

How to let NHS know they’ve got the wrong address for their patient?

What is your opinion of teachers and the teaching profession as an adult?

Posted by RH_300@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 94 comments

ExpressAffect3262@reddit

I'd really love to know how primary school teachers are in todays society. I remember as a kid, in year 4, we were playing bowls and as I went to pick up this heavy, fully plated ball, my friend also bent down right above my ball. I lifted it up and it knocked his mouth. Pure accident. His two front teeth started to bleed ever so slightly, but was fine & I was very apologetic. Teacher comes over to me, literally screams at me and sends me to the steps while he's looked after. I'm crying my eyes out, she comes over and screams again, sending me and my friend to the headmistresses office. We spoke to the headmistress, I was still crying, and she completely understood it was a mistake. The teacher was an absolute cunt who shouted at everyone, but it just seemed like no one did fuck all about her and she continued it for years. Also remember a teaching assistant mocking a kid complaining his eyes were stinging while he was wearing eye goggles during swimming, mocking the kid by fake crying. I feel like things like that wouldn't fly at all today.

Ha, that reminded me of a zoo I went to. Granted it was a Monday morning (11am) and we were the only ones at the zoo, the weather was a bit miserable but it costed about £50 to get in. I think we were there less than an hour, as it was fairly small and most of the enclosures were empty. There were no scheduled talks, or 'meet the animals' or zoo keepers giving off demonstrations/feeding. Felt absolutely ripped off.

Yeah, I agree on that it would be difficult to draw a line. Funny you mention theme parks, I was going to add a 3rd example ha Went away to blackpool for a week and their big pepsi max ride was closed for the week and 1-2 others rides. We ended up still paying full price but then how would you calculate the % off lol I suppose it is just a case of "it sucks but deal with it", but then sort of leads onto example b, where they advertise a new section of the park for people to pay and see, but then half of it is closed.

How do I check out if a charity is legitimate or not when passing on donations?

Posted by bee_889@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 17 comments

ExpressAffect3262@reddit

You can't paint charities with one brush and is explicitly stated in another comment that I only donate to local charities or directly to services such as nurseries. Humble Gaming gives about 10% of the money spent to the charity. Water aid gives 54% Red Cross gives 64%. No shit there's overhead costs, but when you give £10 to water aid, it's gone into the void, or you sign up to monthly subscriptions and get the generic "this is how your money was spent". I'd rather donate clothes to a local charity, or books/toys to a nursery.

Yeah, we donate to our local nursery and I know other local charities that help locals too. As a gamer, one of the games I play did a charity and has scummy tactics behind it (via Humble bundles). Literally 0.57 euro getting donated to a charity out of 11.47 euro. https://preview.redd.it/t5uqc4g1ib2e1.png?width=463&format=png&auto=webp&s=73433dab192ca9c48c55cec0e1eab4f11662a88f

Estate agents are just utter cunts. I have probably met 1 nice estate agent in 20. My wifes hoodie was on the sofa and we had a plate/cup in the sink bowl. Everything else was spotless. The carpet, walls, skirting, no dust or anything, as we do a spring clean weekly and before the inspection.

1) I used to work with a nurse who also comes from a farming family & was dating a farmer. Her partners family gifted them a house, as apparently her partners families motto is to give a house to farmers in the family so they don't go homeless (some shit like that, it was a while ago). She came into work one day complaining she had to pay things like utility bills & how shit it is, as she only used to pay her parents £40/month. 2) My wife thought hitler won the war. 3) My mum thought every country had their own moon.

I think you asking people about being sensitive over their person data on Reddit is going to give you a non-valid answer. To prove this, some of the top comments on this sub who are sensitive about their data have posts about their city/pet names/pets/age/relationship status etc etc. Some people are just way too paranoid over it. They'll tell you how bad giving your data out is until their blue in the face, but won't tell you of the consequences. Like, I walk my dog with another dog walker. He tells me he doesn't carry his phone with him as it's "how they track you". No one here or the dog walker will give you a valid response on why the fuck anyone in the world would care about tracking a dog walker doing a midday walk in a very public area.

ExpressAffect3262@reddit

Spatial awareness Like sure, you'll get some Brit who does it now & then but it's typically because they're daydreaming or distracted. But I've noticed foreigners just lack spatial awareness. A few examples I've come across recently & a lot: 1) Going around Aldi, you're trying to get down an aisle, someone's in the middle looking at stock, you try to squeeze past. Brits would apologise & move their trolly but foreigners seem to give you the look of "just squeeze past". 2) When going to my local library, a group of foreign students would just stand around at the bottom of an escalator chatting, completely oblivious you and everyone else are trying to use it. 3) This weekend gone, I went to a garden centre, around the christmas section. There were an indian couple with their kid, and the kid was playing with a toy. However, they were blocking the path into the shop & there were people behind us. The dad was taking a photo, so sure, let him take the photo of his kid playing with a toy. But he took the photo, looked at us all waiting, then proceeded to start taking more photos. The mum moved the kid out the way and we all pushed past. The dad sighed as if we had just ruined his moment. 4) Lastly, just generally walking. Walking behind an old man? He'll move over and let you pass. Want to tie your shoe laces? You go off to a side.

What the hell are you feeding them? Gold-dusted dried fruits? I have 2 guinea pigs and a big bag of guinea pig food is about £5 that lasts 2 weeks, so £10/month. A big box of sawdust or hay is only about £4-6 too. My aquarium is fairly cheap, though Co2 is about £45/2 months Cat food isn't too bad, usually £30/month Dog food is about £50/month Hamster is about halve the price of guinea pigs.
