For those of you that had kids, how old are they?

Do you guys kinda miss the 1900's?

I miss not being expected to be available instantaneously at all times and would welcome a relative return to that. Have to deliberately go "offline" at times to relax now.

One year off the smokes, the Kojak method worked for me. How's the rest of you getting on?

19 years since I quit, 15 years since I last succumbed to the urge when drunk enough. The smell literally gives me an allergic reaction now, so glad I quit when I did. Most of my friends who quit at some point have relapsed or gone to pouches.

TV's in the Bedroom for Kids - Then and Now

We got our own TV when I was 9 because my mom got a new one for the living room and she also didn't want us hogging it to play Nintendo when she wanted to watch TV. Always had one after that. Don't know if we will have them for our kids when they get older, I think if they have a laptop or PC they will be just fine.

How are we doing on our journey towards retirement?

Not counting on SS at all, but will be a nice bonus if still there when I'm ready. Been working since I was 15. I've been trying to save as much as possible since my late 20s, even only $100 a month at times. It's been accumulating to the point that unless things totally go to crap, I should be able to retire at 65. Of course that's a big if based on economic and societal events the past 20 years.

Have you done a partial or full digital "off the grid" detox from social media platforms?

Deleted everything but Reddit, and I keep it on a 1-hour daily timer. It's forced me to start reading those books I'd promised to last year and never got around to. I feel less anxious.

Anyone else into NBA basketball in the 90s then lost interest?

I still follow, but the current play style of foul baiting and batch scoring via threes is far less entertaining than basketball pre-Steph Curry. Not hating, I just don't enjoy it that much. Thankfully the playoffs are still generally exciting to watch, as much as I am biased against the Pacers they were super fun last year and made things compelling.

How many of us here 'didn't' know a girl who got pregnant before age 18? I'm kinda curious about the conditions which might have made that less likely.

Not my first car, but I cut my teeth on a 5-speed 1990 Honda Civic. Drive stick for 25 years after that and hate that it's basically unavailable now.

Has anyone made a radical life change in your 40s?

DersOne@reddit

45 this year, haven't done it yet but man am I feeling the pull to change something. Lived in the same general area all my life, we have good jobs and a decent friend network but I'm feeling stuck/in neutral a lot. Mid-life angst? Meh.

It’s 1999. You have $8 at a Taco Bell, what’s your post-hangover order?

Jealous of your super wide front walk connecting the sidewalk to the street, mine is narrow and I always catch my shovel on it. Clean work!

Ex-smoker

Unfortunately picked up the habit young, was more or less hooked from 15-26. Took me another 4-5 years before the cravings fully went away and I would bum smokes when drinking. Hit a point where the smell gives me an allergic reaction and haven't smoked since in 15 years, nor will I ever again. There's literally zero reason to do it.

Ok which body part hurts right now?

Those of you with expensive performance vehicles (35k+) and are in between the ages of 20-28, can you actually afford it?

Posted by GottaStayUp@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 887 comments

DersOne@reddit

Didn't buy a new vehicle until I was 30 and had established patterns of budgeting, savings, and retirement planning. Don't rush into buying a new car.

How much are you putting away monthly to retire?

Posted by _blockchainlife@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 740 comments

DersOne@reddit

Maxing 401k so $2k/month. With employer match it's like $2,500. Took a while to get here, feel like I'm playing catch-up for not being able to invest much in my 20s.

What’s a childhood or teen memory you have as a Xennial, that kids today will never experience?

Being turned loose with some friends and $20 in quarters at an arcade. The pure chaos of game music, skee ball sounds, and tokens is one of my most nostalgic childhood moments.

Smoking sections in restaurants?

Was in Miami a few years ago, went to a brewery and had no idea you could smoke there. Brought back lots of memories of sitting near the smoking sections growing up.

Someone in another sub mentioned Sally Jessie Raphael and it brought up a whole topic I haven’t thought of in a long time. Which trashy daytime show did you watch after the Price is Right on sick days?
