And the security of a decent job. And the security of decent NHS And the security of a decent pension And the security of paying taxes to help the poorer And the security of mental health services. And the security not to be abused. And the list goes on. Big companies make huge profits why can't a percentage be taken and put towards social housing for many. How much shops and business can make money . Once everyone moves over to less rent through government, council and private money the landlords can p off.

Why does every gate along a walking path have a different mechanism?

Posted by All_FIREdUp@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 97 comments

DebbDebbDebb@reddit

Hey the different locks are working. People talk people chatter people pull faces then the bright spark (usually the kid) works out how to open the gate. Then the clever adult chats about how he was just about to do the lock. The dogs are already under or over excitedly barking at the now followers to just crawl or jump over. The chatter continues about hey that was another different lock. How to get friends and family chatting

What was the biggest "nobody mentioned this thing would be great" after your kid was born?

It is factually true as my grandmother told me who came from Cape Town. Make tea and offer biscuits it calms the nerves for you both by doing something normal. It focuses the brain on normality. And offering tea and biscuits comes with lots of questions and chatter. Ohhh dear we have rich tea and digestive we have run out of chocolate bourbons. I think this calls for added sugar, what do you think. I nice strong cup of tea will do the job. Yep its true its a life saver. It has saved some from getting ptsd I believe thinking deeper about it. I'm off to ask AI

I disliked retirement so decided to get a cleaning job for 3 years. Then 2 years security which was great. Now I'm back in an extremely easy cleaning jobs. All staff love my cleaning. I'm 64. I will retire at 67y. I can imagine getting a part time job. I enjoy working and the continuity. I look forward to my holidays and the weekend arriving. I enjoy work.

Building company i worked for randomly tested staff which is as it should be. One guy failed the test. The company gave him a talk. Told him what he needed to as his first and last chance. He was given help. He had two weeks off with half pay and instructions/help to follow and two staff he nominated one every other day (they agreed) to phone him. Twice a week for the fortnight he was work visited. The building trade have a high suicide rate apparently and the new boss changed how the company operated. Nice one.

10,000 steps is average. Any less you need to walk some more. If you don't yer rather lazy. And if you can't, that OK because us ukers empathise unless your eating a pasty.

Why do people sit in your seats on the train?

Posted by TalosAnthena@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1009 comments

DebbDebbDebb@reddit

I rarely travel on a train. I was off to Birmingham for a medical. The first stress Next stress getting to a ticket and finding my train. Phew that was sorted. I sat down after quietly stressing and breathed a sigh of relief. Next station a chap came over rudely and asked me to move. I asked why? That's my seat. So I dared to ask the question how do you know?. Because I bought a numbered seat. I apologised and said I did not know that. (Guess what I did not know and the ticket seller never said) So I moved. He was rude. I told him he was rude and I had not caught a train in 20 plus years (I drive generally) He looked gobsmacked. So I stood by him and asked him where does it indicate where to sit? as seats are empty. He ignored so I asked him again. I don't know. So I just sat somewhere else. Luckily I've never needed to catch a train since. My advice Be kind I know many people still don't know you can buy your own seat. Show then your ticket and the carriage seat number. As people do on planes. .Dont blame the people blame the way seats are sold and allocated. Do a letter or email of complaint and suggest a better way. My wish is I had been told I could have paid for my very own seat.

Is it alright to call women "luv"? Ive been using it with women the same way I call blokes "mate" for all my life in (I'm from east london so it's pretty common round here) but I saw an article on the guardian that it's not right to say it. Is this true?

I personally think both are great I work at a construction site, hundreds of people and mate and luv are used frequently A few do not like it so its not said to them. Keep saying luv unless your asked or told not to.
