How do housewives/husbands feel about being financially dependent on your partner?

Shout out to the breadwinning partners who see things this way. I’m very fortunate that my husband feels this way too. So I do apologise to all the supportive partners out there. I know in these sort of conversations, the breadwinners can often be put in a bad light even when they have been super supportive. There’s no winning for you. But thank you for being you. Your partner is a very lucky person.

What tips would you give to younger people about to do their driving test?

I passed on my 3rd attempt. They said I didn’t check my blind spots, but I honestly did. I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. So on my 3rd try, I really exaggerated my blind-spot-checking action. Turning my head a whole 90°. Passed, and it didn’t get mentioned again. I think some times they can’t see subtle movements.

How can I help reassure my mum?

A theory I want to throw in here is that perhaps your mum has realised that you are growing up and has developed an insecurity. This means that she might fear you not needing her anymore. Fear you moving out and leaving her. I’ve seen this stuff before.

How would you define Black British culture and would you say it’s even a thing?

I think culture has a stronger tie to location than race if I’m honest. I feel ‘black culture’ is real in that there are somethings that, for example, a Brit, an American and an African can all relate to. But then after that, the culture branches off into their own thing. Things become less relatable. If you’re a Brit, you haven’t lived an African’s life. I know white people from what are sometimes considered ‘black neighbourhoods’ of london. They are way more relatable and accepted by it’s people than a posh black outsider who went to private school.

Why are some people hostile to me bringing my dog into a store when the owner himself has said it's fine?

Chance_Effect720@reddit

You’re just finding it hard to accept that other people might not love your dog as much as you do. You might well be a responsible owner, but many other owners are letting the community down. I saw a pile of shit in M&S a few months ago.

Do you, or anyone around you actually want AI?

Whilst I sympathise with your budget constraints and mean no disrespect to you. You’re fully within your rights to use AI but this is one of those human problems. World leaders always talk about ‘providing/creating jobs for people’. Well, this is the opposite of that.

Do you think our language has become too Americanised?

There’s a business problem within this. Many business owners want to spend as little as possible. So they are not going to be interested in pushing good quality to excellent quality. They are interested in giving cheaper shit people the magical ability to churn out acceptable work which would be beyond their abilities. This over time just means less opportunities for actual talented people.

The saw in your example, is the equivalent to Microsoft Word. It still requires human thought to be used. The AI is the damn robot that replaces the carpenter. It’s not as good but wayyy cheaper, therefore given all the opportunities. The people who appreciate good carpenters will find it increasingly hard to employ any because the industry will be gone. People love it right now because we are at the sweet spot, I do get that. It’s not ready to replace you yet, just powerful enough to greatly help your work. So you have more time to browse Reddit at work. But what do you think all these business people’s ultimate goal is? To help you work more efficiently? Lol. Yes I’m bitter but my remaining career time will be in this sweet spot. I’m just thinking ahead for future generations. Our kids. I suppose you think AI will take away these mundane jobs so our kids will have more opportunities for middle and upper management, right? Lol

Sorry, I’ve been thinking about your comment, and I just don’t get your point. Is it to counter mine? My point is that it’s a great tool for less talented people. The gap between shit and great people is closing.

Do you feel it has given you a greater ability that you would otherwise not have? What are you without it? Whether you should take advantage of it or not is a whole other question. For what it’s worth, you’re within your rights to do so. I just don’t think you should expect the same respect as someone who can do the same thing without AI.

I hate it but i can see how great it is for people who are shit at things. A shit artist/designer can now ‘produce’ work they could never have dreamed of. A shit student can now ‘produce’ a thesis they could never have dreamed of. A shit boss can now save more money on staff than they could ever have dreamed of.

You have billionaires in the world who are always looking for more. Everyone’s point of contentment is different. You’ll know when you’ve reach it, you start to not mind spending on others. e.g - spend a bit more on presents. More willing to treat a mate to a drink. It’s futile for anyone to try and convince you that you have enough (if this post isn’t a humble brag), because deep down you just want more. That’s fair enough. Go out there and get it. Just do it in a way that doesn’t hurt others, then you’re fine.

When I first installed my ring doorbell, I thought it was for security. But after using it for a while, I realised its true value is to be able to decide if it’s worth opening the front door. If I see a clipboard, if I see a charity uniform, leaflets, builders. I know not to bother wasting my time. They can stand there like a statue for a few minutes if they like.
