Anybody watching this train wreck of a debate?

We are ruled by a gerontocracy - check the ages in Congress too. Still it’s not even a decision. One is a senile fascist traitor and the other is Joe Biden.

Do you try keeping up with modern culture?

Posted by aboustayyef@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 140 comments

CMooreP@reddit

Depends on the cultural artifact - lots of fantastic new media, prestige television is usually worthwhile, I enjoyed the Barbie movie. I am kind of old man-ish about hip hop… it’s hard to pretend like the kids are alright in that department after living through the golden age. New literature, philosophy and adjacent works, and art in general are great or a waste of time, just like in all other epochs. Radio pop music was garbage when I was a teenager and nothing is new on that front.

How many of you don't have kids or aren't married?

Got married at 39, no kids. Never thought I would get married but it was a fantastic surprise. Neither of us want children. It’s awesome

Most of my peers have a huge soft spot for Robin Williams. I can’t stand his schtick and it makes me squirm with discomfort. Who’s a beloved celebrity that you never got into?

Who here has grandkids ?

Posted by kkkan2020@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 100 comments

CMooreP@reddit

I have some foster kids. They’re not kids anymore and they don’t live with me anymore, but still. Anyway one of them is paying $1200 a month for one bedroom apartment, the other has multiple roommates. I am not anticipating grandchildren.

Are you all in middle management or executive management at this point?

Has anyone else noticed, and is slightly infuriated, that "joke" is now synonymous with "meme"

Posted by BreakfastBeerz@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 80 comments

CMooreP@reddit

Tangentially related: the term dad joke denotes what used to simply be referred to as jokes. I think it has something to do with the sort of need for an understanding of internet…culture…to ‘get’ a meme sometimes, making them a kind of in joke.

Any former cigarette smokers miss the habit?

Posted by sunplaysbass@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 377 comments

CMooreP@reddit

It’s been some years but I miss it occasionally. When having a cocktail or when I see someone smoking in an older movie sometimes. I loved private conversations at parties that could only be facilitated by stepping out for a smoke.

Now that you're in your late 30s/40s, what do you enjoy more than you thought you would? What do you dislike more than you thought you would?

Yes. Now those same people are Trump voters. They were garbage humans back then and they still are now. So were their parents and the majority of a society that encouraged them.

Did people really get squirted with LSD from super soakers at raves in the late ‘90s/ early 2000s?

Posted by Feisty_Apartment_197@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 229 comments

CMooreP@reddit

LSD was still cheap and plentiful back in those olden days…but not *that* cheap and plentiful. A super soaker full would be a sizable investment for no real purpose.
