I left a couple years ago, all the meta apps. I do feel like I’m missing out on local events, I wish there was a better way to keep track of stuff going on. But it’s worth it, missing out on a few things, if it means a chance to not pad the pockets of truly terrible sociopaths.

I’ve been to lots of national parks but only one national forest (Shawnee, at the southernmost tip of Illinois). I LOVE the NPS, I am praying this admin doesn’t completely wreck it.

Do you have any "prepper-adjacent" hobbies, recreational pursuits that you think build real skills, or may be useful in a real disaster?

I think it actually started during Covid lockdown as a place to discharge all my anxiety haha. Then I ended up liking it. I also went through a power outage (about five days) and realized I needed to can and preserve so I didn’t lose all my harvest. I don’t have every prepped skill, but I have a couple good ones. 😊

Honestly, your mom is probably so relieved to have you there, especially since you’re an RN! You are providing so much comfort and safety to her, and bonus, you can catch up on bills while you do that. We have an old, weird cultural assumption that someone who moves back in with their family is taking a step backward, but I think that’s changing. Elder care is expensive, and it’s so hard to age in place. I just see this as a win/win. And anyone you meet who is a potential partner should get that and support your decision!
