30s - Rommel I'm very familiar with, the desert fox. Monty I'm also very familiar with, being one of the most important allied generals of WW2. Donitz I know from the name Admiral Donitz, but Paulus... I couldn't tell you anything about.

I like it here. I like our seasons, I like our food, I like our beer, I like our unique traditions, I like our history and culture, I like our language, I like my family and friends who all live here too etc. I've done a fair bit of travelling in the forces and have unfortunately had a good look at some other parts of the world. It put everything into perspective and made me realise we have a fantastic way of life. Those who say we don't have not travelled well. The grass is always greener, but here it's actually pretty green.

When I was in the military, our base just switched to Pay As You Dine catering (meaning it got taken over by a catering company instead of military chefs), ESS or Sodexo (I forget which one now) made us turkey and anemic vegetables. They'd apparently forgotten to cook the turkey so served it up raw on the inside.

I use a single blade safety razor every day, far superior to these cheap multi blade pieces of shit pumped out by Gillette and the rest. Just pair up the right shaver with the right blade and it's the best shave you'll ever have- takes a bit of trial and error but it's worth it

For what it's worth, after 7 years in the military I never saw an incident like any of the ones described, and we had an almost 50/50 split of men and women on our flight. Also worth noting that this was joint services team so worked with plenty of women from across the branches. I saw some bullying for sure, rarely but it was there, but didn't see any sexual assault or straight up misogyny etc. I guess it's like anywhere... good and bad people no matter what, and maybe I was lucky.

One of my mates went down this hole badly. He talks about Jews being in control of world affairs, Alex Jones (InfoWars not One Show) was right about everything, the Clintons are involved in child sacrifices, and thinks the freemasons are some satanic and/or Jewish cult pulling the strings for everything. That last one was especially hurtful for me as he knows I'm a mason myself. I honestly think he's gone so far down the conspiracy hole that there's no hope in getting him back out. He doesn't even realise he's literally parroting nazi propaganda half the time

That the imperial system should not ever be abolished in the UK. The mile, foot, yard are endearing and weirdly intuitive. But none of that matters because what I'm actually talking about is THE FUCKING IMPERIAL PINT. Which "nice" British city you actually don't like and why?

Bristol. Lived in or around it for my whole life. So incredibly overrated. Bristol City Council are the worst - overreaching, bureaucratic, expensive, nothing ever gets done or done well, amd horribly out of touch with most of the residents. But for some reason, hippies around the UK seem to view Bristol as some kind paradise.

From a classic menswear angle, which a suit generally falls under, here are some tips: Try to have only an inch of shirt cuff on show under the jacket sleeves. Try to avoid matching tie and pocket square colour/pattern. They should be complimentary, but not matching (most affordable menswear outlets fail on this front by selling matching ones in packs). Go for a medium-formailty tie knot such as a half Windsor / four in hand knot rather than a full Windsor. Always match the colour of your belt to shoes (black shoes, black belt - brown shoes, brown belt). If wearing a waistcoat, always leave the bottom button undone, the top button is optionally done up or undone. When wearing a jacket, never do both buttons up, same as the waistcoat, always leave the bottom one undone, and then fully undo the jacket when you sit down. All in all, you've not done a bad job! I'd exchange the pocket square for one that doesn't match the tie, and try to bring up the shirt sleeves using an arm garter (those bands around people's arms in old movies to keep their sleeves up). Good luck!

What one thing would you ban in the UK if you could?

I'd imagine it would be! We're governed by UGLE which is a men's organisation, but there are two for women also - OWF (Order of Women's Freemasons) and HFAF (Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons). If a woman was interested in our lodge, we'd show her around for sure but then point out that she'd have to apply through OWF or HFAF as ours is a men's lodge

Shriners are what's called an "appendant body" or 'side order'... which sounds like something you get with a burger. There arent many of them in the uk unfortunately, theyre a fun order that raises a lot of money for hospitals i think. There's loads of those orders, including the famous Rose Croix, the Americans sometimes call it the Scottish Rite - that's the one with the 33 degrees. So whenever you hear about a "33 degree mason", it means they're in that side order. They aren't any higher than a normal Mason, just in a different optional side order. Odd Fellows are interesting, very similar to masonry but not affiliated. I've thought about joining them a few times

That'll probably be the Tyler, he sits outside the door of the lodge during a meeting. Unfortunately many lodges have succumbed to ageing membership that was further destroyed by Covid. Ours thankfully has a thriving younger membership and is very healthy!

There are woman's lodges yeah. Two grand lodges govern them, as opposed to the one grand Lodge for the men's one - OWF (order of women's freemasons) and HFAF (honourable fraternity of ancient freemasons) are both women's lodges, whilst the men's ones are governed from UGLE (United grand lodge of England)
