Id argue when retired you shouldn't be drawing all your money out straight away, so stocks and shares are still viable depending on your pot size

Either enable xmp and stick with current ram plus get a AM4 x3d CPU (whichever has the best deal) Or save and upgrade to am5. I wouldn't recommend I new CPU and ram upgrade on am4, you're not getting enough value

If you don't have onboard graphics you need gpu for it to display. You can buy a cheap one on eBay What GPU you get depends on what games you play. Your monitor refresh rate and it's resolution

My initial thoughts are you need to build a relationship with her first before expecting to address this with any chance of success. Invite her out with you to a film etc and go from there. Ideally one on one. If she's locked in her room all day there might be social anxiety. Do you know anything about her hobbies/interests? I imagine she's either watching shows or reading a lot

I wouldnt say build with upgrading in mind if you have £2k budget. If you want value just built mid range, whatever is the best deal at the time. Then just upgrade again when your current system doesnt meet your needs

It depends where this home-brewed thermal paste fell. I'd clean the CPU pins carefully with a toothbrush and 99alcohol and go from there. Test it with normal thermal paste, or non at all if you just quickly boot test it then shutdown

3080 12gb used if you can find one. Undervolt it using MSI afterburner and YouTube guide. Or if you are yet to buy the PSU get a used quality one that's 750w

What's your monitor resolution, if 1080p I wouldn't upgrade anything, save for a whole new system. If 1440p or 4k resolution you can upgrade the graphics card only now. And then save for a new system and swap the new graphics card in.

Also didn't mention resolution or refresh rate. The higher the res and the lower the refresh rate there less important the cpu upgrade is and the more the GPU upgrade should be the focus

I had a seasonic snowsilent 750w with a 3090, some games it was fine, others it would safety shutdown. Launching into space in Starfield would always cause this. Probably would have been fine if I undervolted (which I recommend doing anyway) but I replaced with a higher watt psu
