No kidding. I saw a video of AI generated speaking video yesterday, perfect accents, speaking synchronisation, special effects etc. The movie industry alone won’t stand a chance.

Why am I NOT crazy for wanting to leave Canada to come back to the UK? :)

The gap has gone now for sure. B.C. will always win on the landscape and nature side but lacks being near to anywhere worldwide unique like Windsor, York or Edinburgh. I strongly believe Canada has an identity but not a culture. To answer your question about the standard of living, now the mortgage is paid off I’ve been able to reduce my working hours substantially and still live comfortably (though that’s relative, I guess). Money left at the end of the month for travel and whatever else. If I compare myself to my Canadian cousins, I would say we are on a par, though they of course have massively profited from the property boom. Anyway, I think with the property price band you are looking at plus a well paying job (feasibly in London for even better money) that you won’t have any troubles. Caveat that you want to start a family and that’ll cost ya!

Know the territory as I spent my childhood in Vancouver and now live NE Hampshire just south of Reading. It was my dream when younger to return to Canada but was priced out of the housing market repeatedly. The consolation is that I still get to have holidays there every few years for quality time with friends and I think I’d move back to Vancouver only if I suddenly got very wealthy and could afford both a place in the city and somewhere outside. The UK is home now and I have ties and memories I don’t want to lose. For me, the best things here are the culture, the history, closeness to Europe and the infrastructure (the traffic is just as bad in the GVA now). General experience on how to get by in the systems also plays a part. For quality of living, it’s the same, I think. I saw the Canadian house, food and fuel prices rocket maybe five years ago but it’s equalled by the recent 10% inflation spike the Uk had last year. Not sure we are out of the woods yet on that one, the COL is just rising in other areas like rent rises and benefit cuts when people are facing a second winter of fuel vs food decisions. Cars of course are more expensive both to buy and run. Anyway, the area you suggested in the UK is not that bad. Lots of nice villages with easy rail and motorway transport to London and other cities. The weather is the same almost. You probably know all this :) . Anyway, nothing needs to be forever and I doubt you’d regret time with your family.

Thank you, good point. It’s funny sometimes how other people see us and what they think our values are. I think it was more about not feeling like an undateable than someone finding Mr Right for me.

Thanks for asking, OP. I thought I was ok until I met a friend for lunch and she was boasting about how many couples she had set up - although the couples were younger (we’re in our 50’s) I realised it had really rattled me that she didn’t try to matchmake me. Silly and self-centred, but my confidence is really low. I’d try online dating but the idea of a date just terrifies me at this point!

Shops are in the North West but for some reason their products are available to me on Amazon Fresh in the South East. No idea why but not complaining as they have good products.
