It's the golden age of buying cars from the golden age of car manufacturing right now. Cars from the late 1990s-2000s had all the tech and features you need, but not the ones you don't and right now they're cheap because they're not 'classic' yet. Plus they had some of the most wild and interesting engines (especially BMW/Audi/Mercedes), manual gearboxes etc etc. I have a 1998 BMW E38 which cost me £4k. Heated seats and wing mirrors, cruise control, electric seats, windscreen wiper sensors, 4.4L V8, and comfortable as anything. Was like a 60k car new

Exactly. For the past seven years my daily drive car has been a 1998 Saab 9-3SE convertible. 150 horsepower so fairly fast, heated leather seats, cruise control, great stereo, and I paid £1500 for it with a full service history on 62000 miles

Streaming, the economic model probably doesn't work and they'll have to reduce costs, increase prices/ads. Takeaway delivery, same situation prices will have to increase but there's never been a more convenient ordering system. For both of those I think we're probably just past the peak already. Smartphones, I think baring tiny incremental increases the tech is about as good as we'll get for personal devices like these and they will rein for a long time. I look forward to seeing what, if anything, can replace them.

Idk if I'd exactly call Disney churning out more butter from their cash cows across the 2010s until now the peak of streaming content tbh. In fact, the last 'good' film I recall actually coming from Disney (and I've just looked at a list of the 831 films ever released by Disney) was Up in 2009. Everything else has been somewhere on the scale from entertaining/watchable (hardly a high bar for a film) all the way down to abysmal.

We are primitive and tribal though. Consider that civilisation has been around for AT MOST 20,000 years. It's really not that long in the scheme of things, only 120 years ago, we hadn't even visited the 7th continent, which even now we know so little about. I think tech makes us think we are smarter than we are, but at least here in Britain we're only a couple hundred years away from shitting in buckets in the house and throwing it out of the window onto the street, actually go to the wrong street and that could still happen in the UK. Consider that we've evolved from very tough conditions, being aggressive, tribal, primitive, it was all necessary for survival at one point, and while conditions have changed externally for humans, internally it will take time to catch up

Physical media is already having a comeback. We have seen it in a nostalgic way with vinyl, but people now are realising what complete horseshit all the streaming services are, and people want physical media again. DVDs and CDs will come back, in fact, I think CDs are starting to gain traction now, I tried to find some older compilation CDs the other day, and they were the obviously second hand, but still selling at the original price. They’ll invent bigger air fryers, to the point we go full circle and just end up with better, more convenient ovens. Air fryers are okay to an extent but if you have a large amount of food to cook they’re usually not quite big enough, same with things like cakes or big slabs of meat or big casserole dishes, there’s some things an oven is still more convenient. Also with the rise of house shares and kids staying at home longer, you have to take it in turns to use the air fryer, which means it could be less economical to run it 2-3 times in a row rather than just whacking the oven on and everyone cooking their food at once. The problem I always had with ovens was how long they take to heat up, eliminate that and have a larger space that can cook everything perfectly, and quickly, and that will be the best of both worlds.

I was quite tempted - we bought an air fryer when our oven broke last year and we love it so much we’ve never really bothered buying a new oven. There’s only 2 of us, so the size issue isn’t too bad, but there is the odd thing we just accept we can’t have (like pizza)

Cut pizza into slices to fit, they air fry in under 10 mins from frozen (the thin stone baked ones). I have like a baking tray stacking thing that fits into each drawer so I can do two slices in each drawer at a time, one slice stacked on the other. Have to be careful though as the top slice can burn, so you need to swap them over half way through.

I have one, it’s shit. Still takes 20 mins to get up to temperature, takes a while to raise/lower the temp when it’s going, and despite promising an even heat distribution, it doesn’t. Podcasts. They're effectively unregulated in the sense that they don't have to follow ethical guidelines or worry about representation the way the BBC, ITV etc do. Every amateur can produce one and share the same platform that TV/music/film professionals use. The mood on podcasts is to be yourself rather than to fit a mold decided by producers/editors - a freedom brings so much more fun and entertainment. Having thought further, the peak may have been about two years ago before advertisers flooded the market. But they're still my favourite form of media and very close to their heyday.

I’m a massive nerd who paints miniatures, so I tend to listen to them then as well. If you’re the kind of person who likes to listen to things while also doing something else, they’re great. I’m the opposite to you, I hate that video requires me to sit still to watch and listen at the same time (obviously still watch the odd movie/tv show). I’d much rather be doing things, and podcasts can accompany that.

Once this stuff exploded it became too predatory and efficient at giving the corporations what they wanted rather than what the user wanted and just went steadily downhill. Example: menus used to be designed for making things easier and intuitive for the user. Now they are designed to maximise selling you something at the expense of the user experience.

I might suprise some people but I think the internet/laptops/smartphones are in their heyday. It's all honestly so overrated. The new laptop I bought is genuinely the slowest computer I ever remember owning, I don't know if I'll even bother buying a new one to replace it when it eventually breaks. And online shopping is just catalogue shopping if your delivery driver can even be bothered to deliver your parcel and it arrives undamaged.

I dont think thats what they meant at all. the reason we have very cheap goods from china is the fact Chinese workers have been given wages at a level we haven't seen in the UK since 1820, this phenomenon is pretty much already over Despite everything wrong with china its finally started growing its own consumer base (with 1 billion shoppers), and created a middle class. this is why manufactory is spilling into states like Vietnam and leaving china these poverty wage factory jobs arent returning to the UK, and neither are high quality skilled jobs either. which is sort of moot. when you ask britons would they work in a factory only 5% said yes the end of cheap chinese goods is the replacement with less cheap south asian goods with markups commensurate to chinese middle management

Fantasy Football - it’s a matter of time before that game is going to be a victim of enshitification. Currently has record numbers. Park Run- basically every town has one and numbers seems to be increasing. Glastonbury maybe? I’m sure they’ll be some who’ll argue it’s way past it but the fact it sells out within literal minutes and 250,000 people attend just makes me think it’ll never get bigger. Crypto is just worse in every way as a currency. Fiat currency at least has a baseline of demand because you need it to pay taxes and stores and creditors are required to accept it. This sounds like a drama bot assuming things and directing the focus away from the subject and onto the user… I do not use crypto. Blockchain tech is not crypto currencies (multiples of). The area you do make a sound statement is with respect to core resource via blockchain say and everyday exchange of goods potentially some sort of local fiat currency? Eg Brixham Pound etc? Interesting mix either way.

You're right, blockchain and crypto currencies are not the same. Blockchain is an immutable database, which is not commercially useful, since there is no business that does not need to rectify errors, and crypto is a speculative asset based on a commercially unviable database architeture.

Controversial one but ill say music Theres more music being produced than ever before. And sure a lot of it is garbage but there's also a lot of gems across more genres than ever. And it's all available on a single streaming platform for a fairly reasonable price. Or on YouTube. And you aren't constrained by storage limitations like before or having to carry cds. Just endless music available 24/7 through an app. Almost like Netflix was before every studio had their own streaming platform. I can see a future where there are more streaming platforms and they buy the rights to certain record lables or artists and they become platform exclusives. Almost happened with tidal but luckily didn't take off. That time.

Fantastic games are releasing faster than they can be completed. But if you ask me, the PS1-PS2 was the Golden Age. 1996 to 2006. Same for you?

Depends on what you mean by 'big' AAA companies won't take risks. And microtransaction loot boxes are often seen as a requirement because they invest so much money into development and the price of games has been resistant to rises. Indie games are still banging as ever and easily accessable. As someone who isn't a fan of online games (I like my ability to pause thanks). Even ignoring all the shitty practices it's becoming harder and harder to find games I like in the bog of crap I refuse to play.
