What's your biggest cock up whilst travelling?

Not sure it's my biggest cock up, because I started travelling in 2016 and still haven't gone back yet, but this was in the first three months I started in Central America, Panama and have myself 5 months to work my way up through to Mexico City. After 10 weeks of made my way to a tiny place called Marbella on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. I'd booked into a surf lodge for a month and even though I didn't surf of had any plans on doing so, it was a perfect place to spend some time to debrief myself after a couple of months and get my head straight and clear of all the bollocks everyday thoughts that clutter up your mind from back home which I hadn't quite got rid of yet. It was perfect doing nothing but after 3 weeks I decided that since away I'd not really gone out at all to see nightlife, and as there was zero where I was I decided to head up to a place called Tamarindo - a proper surf town with surf dudes and dudettes and a strip with hotels and bars and that's about it. So I used Airbnb and found a great little place just out of town for only $9 a night. Tamarindo was about a 4 for journey once navigating different buses but I eventually arrived at the place to find out I'd booked the wrong dates, two days from that day. It was the second time I'd done that already on the trip and was reading with myself and hitched into town to find somewhere as I had no SIM. The best I could find was 80$ which I haggled/flirted down with the cougar owner of the place I find on the beach. I decided it was just one of those things and got ready to go out. Important to note, I had given up drinking a year before hand, however if had a couple of beers here and there so didn't really think much of it. So I went out and aimed just to bar hop around, see what happened, see who I meet and this one guy came up to me trying to sell me cocaine. I Dabbled in that world in a previous life and wasn't interested, however I was interested in what they were selling it for, curious as we were much nearer the source. Last time I'd known the street price of coke in UK at that point it had been 50/60 per gram. So I asked and he told me $120 for a gram. I literally laughed on his face and explained that's double the price and about 100 times the distance. I also explained I wasn't interested, only curious, but he decided I was fair game. All evening while going from place to place our maybe see him, each time here let the price by 10 dollars. I kept laughing saying, no, I'm not interested. Last time I'd seen him out was already down to half price. I went back to my hotel after not a great deal happening, I'd met a few folks but I felt tired so headed back and was nearly at my place when buddy popped up and said $20. He knew I wasn't going to say yes and dropped it to that I think just for shits and giggles, however it was at that unfortunate moment for myself I decided a good deal is a good deal and I didn't want to pass it up, so I said ok. Gimme two. I was on fucking holiday man, why not. My walk back to hotel had already been filled with thoughts of being an 'old man now' and 'no fun anymore' so I decided to fuck it. And fuck it I did. 30 minutes later I'm charlied off my tits on the beach with two ladies of the night, having a fucking whale of a time. I finish what I've bought and it was not too bad so I found buddy and grabbed another 2, knowing I'd ruined my budget but I thought sod it. About 4 am in in the hotel at the bar with the flirty cougar and she's got designs on me and I decided I'm up for some more fun. I finished all the coke and she asks if I want a drink and I get her to make me a massive cocktail to bring me down a bit. We say up until 7am drinking when she had to go onto the kitchen to make breakfast and I crawled up to bed. Where I believe I actually died. I had the worst alcohol poisoning ever. I didn't stop vomiting for about 5 days, I couldn't move a muscle, every drop of water that went into my body was regurgitated instantly and would spend the next 10 mins dry heaving. I didn't manage to leave until 7 days later, at which point I'd lost about two stone in weight, and my wallet was considerably lighter due to get saying the discount was on for onlytwo days. I didn't care because I thought at one point I'll be dead anyway so it doesn't matter what they charge. Luckily the surf lodge owner was in the area and called me to see what I was up to on the 7th day and managed to get lift back with him, I would never have managed the bus journey. It was about another 5 days before I actually felt anywhere like normal again. The next week the Surf Lodge owner broke his back surfing and I ended up staying two extra weeks to run the place while he was in hospital, which he actually made a full recovery from. Anyway, I fucked up on so many levels, cost myself SOOOOO much money on what I thought was going to be a cheap $50 weekend away turned into just under $900 in the end. Fucked everything up after that as well because of budgeted to the penny. Ended up in Hawaii with only $50 to my name and a flight out to Japan in a month, thinking I'd go to an embassy and somehow they would help me and hahaha theres no embassy in Hawaii.
