How do Hungarians feel about the fact that they were the ones who prevented Austro-Hungarian colonialism?

Nowadays, Hungary has Trianon upon itself AND no place in Africa where they speak Hungarian
Mark__78L@reddit
Who cares if nobody speaks Hungarian in Africa? Takarodj már innen
One-Dog8812@reddit
Mind you Magyarabs still exist (eg. descendants of kids who were kidnapped by the Ottomans), which is just another reason why OP's questions are ... weird.
Difficult-Heron@reddit
I don't know what he's saying, there's always at least 1 hungarian tourist within hearing range.

Seeing Western examples, we were lucky that there were no Hungarian colonies.

Portugal, which is similar in size and population to Hungary, has a language spoken by 270 million people. How many people speak Hungarian?
One-Dog8812@reddit
Not enough responses asking who tf cares (sarcasm!), I have to ask:
Who tf cares about that?
Mansi is spoken by even less people, so what?

Hungary wasn't a seafaring nation.

Sorry for not destroying a country and its history😃
Flat_Improvement1191@reddit
Who cares?
darealq@reddit
Why does it matter?
horsewithnonamehu@reddit
Hungary has its own Africa within its borders, we don't need another one
chisell@reddit
It's more precise to call it our own India though.
Lordy8719@reddit
... why would we want a place in Africa where they speak Hungarian?
crivycouriac@reddit (OP)
Hungarians are dying out, just like the Portuguese (tho longer)
But unlike Hungarian, the Portuguese language isn’t dying with the Portuguese due to reserves in Africa
Grande_Mangiattore@reddit
You know the sun is dying too...
kiskrumpli@reddit
Hungarian people and language isn't dying out. It is reducing in number, but it's existence isn't threatened
Lordy8719@reddit
... your point being?
InformationNew66@reddit
Trianon is like if parts of Ukraine were chopped off and given to another country.
kiskrumpli@reddit
So the part that Ukraine got should be returned to Hungary?

OP, I see that your history is hidden, and that you made this post but you don't engage in debate and you don't respond to most of the comments here. Can you tell us what was the reason behind you posting this question?
crivycouriac@reddit (OP)
How do I not engage?
OccupyMyBrainOyeah@reddit
I checked the comments and you only responsed to one of them (now 2, including mine), and even there your response was not actually addressing the comment, it was a statement that had nothing to do with the comment, it was an attempt to change the topic of the conversation.
it's not very understandable why you made this post, what is your purpose with it.

I dont think it was thought, or at least i forgot about having learned it. I haven't looked into this, but I think ill try to find some info about this, because i got a little curious about
As far as not having colonies, or not having a history of colonialism should be the default, and it isn't something to be proud of
Due_Purple_1199@reddit
They wouldn’t speak Hungarian even if Hungary was supportive of colonialism
Karabars@reddit
Austria-Hungary mostly lacked colonies because the West had easier access and thus more time to conquer the known world, yet still, there were things like
- Franz-Joseph's Land
- Port of Taijin (China)
- North Borneo
(Part of the reason why WWI broke out was because the colonisiers didn't want to redistribute the colonies so the newly formed powers liek Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary had their fair share).
Colonies are not something to be proud about, so we literally don't care
zh_victim@reddit
The what?
daninet@reddit
Feeling of Hungarians as the dead people who used to live during the Austro-Hungarian Empire or Hungarians as people active on reddit and gooning on paprika flavored anime porn?
Neither of them can answer bro...
Evelinn2004@reddit
no place in Africa where they speak Hungarian
What is this supposed to even mean? We got our pretty amazing people, one of the most impressive history, amazing traditions and our borders. That's what matters. Everything that happened was lowkey deserved. I'm proud to live in a country that didn't went and ruined another country for its benefits(in modern-ish times) so many dicks are trying to win elections and get benefits for themselves in Africa just to steal and take all the resources that they can for themselves. Is that really what we should feel bad about not doing? Enough internet for today😐👍
rantotthus2@reddit
It's almost never talked about. Also, even if the Hungarian government was supportive of Austria-Hungary getting colonies, it's very unlikely that we could actually get some. It was in no ones interest.
gabor_legrady@reddit
Not on my plate. There are millions of alternate universes, and I assume in most of them contains the same mix of people as ours - leading to similar issues.
