Its been 65 years, I'm solving this one, once and for all, put my name in the record books!

No one put food in the box, and no one has opened the box...
Schrödinger's cat is definitely dead!
Solved. Easy!
404_GravitasNotFound@reddit
Schrodinger: So the cat must be either dead or alive!
Box: Meow!
S: Shush, silence you!
KarlSethMoran@reddit
Both. That's kind of the whole point.
godfromabove256@reddit
Not both. Superposition. There's a difference between "both dead and alive" and "in a superposition of dead and alive" that, admittedly, can be kind of hard to grasp.
KarlSethMoran@reddit
Superposition means exactly that it's both, until you measure and collapse the wavefunction, whereby you choose one of the eigenstates.
godfromabove256@reddit
No, superposition isn’t both. There’s a really nice MIT Open Courseware lecture that debunks this misconception, it should be in the first few lectures if you want to check it out.
KarlSethMoran@reddit
Look, I know how a linear combination of quantum states work, and I understand it's not the same as classically being in both states at once. I teach QM to undergrads.
godfromabove256@reddit
Oh, ok, sorry. That's actually what I thought you were saying (that they were classically in both states at once), so I was against that, but it seems like we're arguing the same side.

hssss reeee scratch scratch

I lol'ed
Chaotic424242@reddit
It's actually been 91 years....
SpeedyHAM79@reddit
You don't understand the experiment.
JokeJedi@reddit (OP)
You don't understand the joke... which is way simpler.
Please lol
SpeedyHAM79@reddit
No lolz for that one.
Equal-Bobcat204@reddit
Thank you. Nobel Prize in the post.
Doctor_Midnyte@reddit
It may or may not be in the post.
what_it_is_my_doge@reddit
FIFA Philosophy Prize, perhaps?
bookmarkjedi@reddit
Yes, but not in the post.
mrcorde@reddit
The thing is .. if you didn't open the box, how would you know there was a cat in it to begin with?
Acrobatic_Matter_109@reddit
That was a purr-fect question. I expect he had to paws before he answered.
weekly_dole@reddit
Surely it's the Noble prize?
DoFr56@reddit
Did not the Nobel folks show us that THEY really do not run a popularity contest.
You can give your Nobel prize away, but that does not make them a Nobel Prize winner!
Lyrcaxis@reddit
Surely it both is and isn't until someone opens it
Blippy_Swipey@reddit
Will we have to wait another 65 years?
MiguelDufrene-64@reddit
Haha, nice. That cat’s been a zombie for decades. Someone get a mop.
CBWeather@reddit
You forgot to put the cat in the box. Schrödinger's cat is alive.
EonOst@reddit
When did he die?
theNerdShirtGuy@reddit
Schrödinger came up with this thought experiment specifically to show how absurd quantum physics is
FiniteCharacteristic@reddit
The fact that the thought experiment is from 1935 tells you when this joke was last updated.

This tracks with today's embrace of alternative facts and misunderstanding of pretty much everything
