Afjordable housing
marycartlizer@reddit
At first I didn't get it, but then I saw 10th century, and it really hit.
Be sure when it's telling this joke to emphasize the 10th century part.
Glum_Knowledge8757@reddit
Ahhhh yes.
marycartlizer@reddit
So you know about the affordable housing crisis in Greenland that took place during the 10th century. Maybe this should have been posted under obscure historical jokes.

I was under the impression everyone knew Erik the Red
Glum_Knowledge8757@reddit
Oh, I don't know Erik PERSONALLY but I did learn about him in HS and college.... tbh I didn't know he was from Greenland , I thought it was Norway and was a viking.
Guess I didn't learn about him very well.
Duffir@reddit (OP)
He was originally from Norway, he just liked killing too much

Some of us only know about Eric the Awful. The brutal and tenacious.

I have learned more about Greenland's economy tonight than ever before, thank you
marycartlizer@reddit
Tomorrow we'll cover why the Vikings in Greenland thought the Vikings of Norway were a little wimpy.
Glum_Knowledge8757@reddit
I look forward to your distribution of relatively obscure knowledge!

Switch the question to ' Why do Americans want Greenland so much'. A more contemporary and all-round better joke.
Tall-Editor-1941@reddit
Now for the real answer. Climate change, not anthropogenic, made the climate warmer enough to enable the growing of crops and keeping livestock.
Lortekonto@reddit
The real answear is trade.
For several hundred years Greenland had almost monopoly in supllying Europe with Ivory. Greenland had 1/10 of the population of Iceland, but paid 10 times the taxes. It was a pure cash grap. Young and strong? Want to earn some quick cash. Go ivory hunting in Greenland.
Pleasant_Flatworm866@reddit
Nor way!

Take my upvote and then go to jail.

To be fair, I learned about Fjords when my daughter obsessively watched "Frozen" almost decades ago... so it was pretty punny from the start
marycartlizer@reddit
The fact that your randomly chosen time and place would be exactly correct historically to make this joke funny is an unbelievable coincidence. Almost on par with those Lincoln Kennedy ones.
