It always the guy who pays the first date and dot. đ Thats the tradition
Integeritis@reddit
You are right. If the woman offers to split, take it, otherwise you are expected to pay on the first date. I donât understand how a guy thinks he would just waltz into a first date and only pay for himself.
I tell you as a guy, if Iâd be a woman and a man only pays his half without discussing it beforehand with me, that would be shocking and would be our first and last date.
VadSiraly@reddit
And if you are actively looking for a partner, you are expected to pay 5 first dates per week with random women, right?
Integeritis@reddit
5 first date per week already sounds dumb. If you take 5 first dates thatâs on you. Optimize it, make it a cafe date, dog walking. Itâs a you problem at that point. Dating 5 people in parallel already sounds disrespectful to your dates who may want to have a second one. Do better.
VadSiraly@reddit
Lots of dates end after the first, especially when met on some dating apps. It only makes sense that you chat and meet with multiple people, since both of you know there's a good chance that you are not a match, that's just how it works. The 5 per week might have been an exaggeration, but the point stands.
Integeritis@reddit
Even 2 is unrealistic for 90+ % of the guys. Good for you though but what you experience is not the reality for the great majority of people
Dazzling_Stretch_474@reddit
Its only the rule for the first 1-2 dates but seeing the comments here on this page i can see most comments came from men downvoting me and now poor girl probably offered to pay which is soooo awkward in Hungary ..... I feel sorry for her she probably listened to all these negative comments when its been always the norm in Hungary that men pay the first date.
VadSiraly@reddit
Oh, poor girl. At worst she had to pay for her own consumption, what a tough world we live in.
Known_Hat_2415@reddit
Conservatives tend to pay, but the best is to talk bout it. If U could afford u should offer to split the bill. If hé thinks otherwise he will tell
Dazzling_Stretch_474@reddit
Why ask? The tradition is that guys pay the bill on the first date. Ive never met anyone who asked to split...
VadSiraly@reddit
And we can just not give a fuck about traditions, there's also that option.
Known_Hat_2415@reddit
I dont like that tradition.
Integeritis@reddit
You are 100% not a woman then lmao
Guy should pay on first date. You can discuss splitting if there is a next one. But if the woman offers to split or pay, she is a keeper.
Married guy here who kept that woman
Top_Interaction1996@reddit
As the first date is always cheap-o (coffee or something) initiate payomg as they guy and see how she maneuvers the situation.
Inexpensive way to save yourself from a lot of future headaches
33beno33@reddit
Everyone pays for themselves. No question.
Particular-Relief528@reddit
You should definitely offer to split, and he should definitely decline, that's the polite way to do it.
abrakadabra-20@reddit
100%
bensssol@reddit
Oh god I love these, âletâs demand everyone abide my rules because itâs trAdiTiONâ comments. To be fair: Itâs kind of you to offer it to him and for him it is chivalrous to pay for both without asking or to decline. (I only have a problem with ppl expecting and demanding something instead of communicating like an adult.)
Infamous_Question430@reddit
I think you can ask if he wants to split the tab, and he will likely offer to pay for it after you bring it up. If he doesnt then you just split it.Â
Dazzling_Stretch_474@reddit
No dont ask. They should pay without asking. Thats the tradition.....
vahokif@reddit
Tradition is peer pressure from dead people.
bensssol@reddit
I wish grown up communication would be the tradition everybody expects from each other.
Ex-peasant_@reddit
Were you young in the 20th century?
Dazzling_Stretch_474@reddit
I was born in the 90s đ any date I went in my entire life, the guy payed...with my friends its also kind of an unspoken rule that the guy pays otherwise there likely wont be a second date đ but if you Hungarian you must know this from experience
Flat_Improvement1191@reddit
Paid*
Dazzling_Stretch_474@reddit
You're right thanks for the correction
Infamous_Question430@reddit
I'm also a Millennial, but also, times change.Â
vahokif@reddit
I think it's polite to ask if they want to split the bill and accept graciously if they would like to payÂ
Curious-Cockroach171@reddit
Are you gonna date me? Im a mixed Romanian guy who grew up in Budapest haha
parc_guell@reddit
On a first date I would chose to only have a drink or a coffee. And ofc I would offer to pay my part but if he insists on paying the whole bill I would accept it knowing it's not really expensive. I've always done it this way (F48, Hungarian).
abrakadabra-20@reddit
If youâre okay with splitting, why even ask? Anyway, usually the guy pays on the first date.
glittersailor@reddit (OP)
Because I have experience where the guy takes it as impolite when I offers to split. I knew it can be super subjective but I just wanna see the majority of the answer here
Bloodrose_GW2@reddit
If a guy considers it impolite, maybe better to avoid him.
PuzzleheadedCell7708@reddit
You mean usually the guy pays on all the dates
SnooWalruses291@reddit
I think it's silly to overthink it. You should bring it up and talk with him about it.
