A man finds a lamp and a genie comes out. "I can grant you three wishes," he says, "but only for very mundane, everyday things."

The man says, "Well then, make me a sandwich. Wait! I meant - "

Millionaire and sandwich are both nouns, mate.

'Sandwich' can be a verb also, but not used in that manner. To use it as a verb would have to be something like "sandwich X between Y", like "Sandwich me between two pornstars". However, when talking about "a sandwich", that is a noun (the hint is the fact that is has "a" in front of it, because that doesn't go in front or verbs).

The fact is, "Make me a..." is not bad English, it is absolutely used correctly here and the English language is just janky in a way that makes everything heavily reliant on context and common usage.

The joke works because it's grammatically correct though, that's actually a key feature of the joke.

That doesn't mean that you actually need to understand or even care why it's grammatically correct to enjoy it, though, just like I don't need to know how my food gets made to enjoy it, or know how to grow a pumpkin in order to make pumpkin soup.
