Is BME good for Electrical Engineering?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to apply for a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and I’d love to hear honest experiences from current students or graduates.

• How is the workload and difficulty of the program?

• How competitive is admission?

• Are the professors supportive and good at teaching?

• What are the exchange opportunities like (Erasmus, etc.)?

• After graduation, is it possible to find a job in Germany as an EE graduate from BME?

Pontosan, illetve általában minden egyetem nonamenek számít külföldön ami nem abban az adott országban van (kivéve ha valami tényleg top-top-top egyetem). Pl. Hollandiában akkor sem fognak ismerni egy dán egyetemet, ha amúgy a holland egyetemekkel kb. megegyező helyet foglal el a ranglistákban.

De a BME a legkevesbe nonamebb a magyar egyetemek kozul. Ha a kerdezo magyar lenne lebeszelnem a BME-rol, igy viszont kb. ez az amit jobban el tud adni kulfoldon.

Egyáltalán nem akartam op-t lebeszélni, én egy kommentre válaszoltam. Annyi volt az állításom, hogy nyugaton ugyanolyan noname mint bármelyik random albán, bosnyák vagy bolgár egyetem szóval nem fogják rá felemelni a fejüket.

Szerintem a papír nyugati értékének szempontjából mindegy melyiket végzed. Különbség a potenciálisan elsajátítható tudásban és a lehetőségekben van. Ha mindenképpen magyart kell választani én is a bme-t javasolnám.

Bár mérnökinfón, de egyébként én is a bme-n végeztem.

Persze, en beszelnem le, ha nem kulfoldi lenne. Csak azt mondtam, hogy egy obudai nonamebb, mint egy bme meg kulfoldon is. Amugy en is bme-n vegeztem.

Az óbudai angol akkreditált diplomát adott ki már 20 éve. Szerinted melyiket fogadják el, azt vagy a nem akkreditált noname bme-st?

Nem kell semmit. Csak a példa kedvéért ha Új-Zélandon akarod elismertetni akkor van egy eqf-nzqf lookup table amiben ott van, hogy melyik szint minek felel meg és kész. A standard vízum elbírálási eljárás része.

Egyébként az óbudais diplomát hogyan máshogy lehet elismertetni máshol, mint az eqf? Az az egységes eus végzettség osztályozó rendszer.

Úgy hogy a britet kb mindenhova elismerik és mivel 2 diplomát kaptál (mintha ott végeztél volna) nincs semmi dolgod

Ugyanúgy el kell azt is ismertetni. Talán a commonwealth realm országokban van valami egyezmény, hogy elfogadják de ennyi. Az eqf sokkal szélesebb körben elismert standard.

Egyébként asszem a metun is lehet valami amerikai kettős diplomát szerezni aztán mégis ugyanúgy noname.

Az átlag hallgató szempontjából majdnem 0 hatása van. Erasmus esetén nincs 1 félév buli valamelyik másik országban, de a diploma vagy a megszerzett tudás nem lesz kevesebb. A horizonnak már lehet hatása pénzügyileg, de ugye azt meg "megoldotta" az alapítványosodás.

Olyan gyorsan biztos nem volt hatasa, mint hogy ezt elhataroztak. Azert egy ekkora intezmeny tehetetlensege eleg nagy, lassan valtoznak a dolgok. Ahogy javitani ugy lezulleszteni sem lehet egyik naprol a masikra. Szoval meg csak prekoncepciok vannak arrol, hogy le fog esni a szinvonal, de meg nem lattunk belole semmit. Ugyanazt a diplomat adjak, mint 1-2-3 eve, es ugyanazt es ugyanugy tanitjak jelenleg is.

IDK, to be honest, but CTU is also in central europe.
If that is only my two option I would go with CTU instead of BME. CTU has higher ranking as far as I know. But don't trust strangers on reddit, do your own research as well. :)

This is a third of a century old info, but the English language classes were not the same level as the Hungarian language classes. Back then it was a known trick to take the courses you didn't care about in English with the international students for an easy grade (if you spoke English well enough, which wasn't as common back then as it is now.)

With that said, I had no problem finding jobs in the US, Germany, and Canada with my BME EE MSc. It even got me into a German PhD program. In Germany be sure to explain that Hungarian grades go the opposite direction, 5 is the best and 1 is fail :-)

I graduated there.

-It is difficult.

-Admission is relatively easy.

-They are usually real experts with often relevant industrial knowledge too. Howewer, theyaren't supportive or good at teaching.

-Regarding Erasmus or exchange, there were programs when I learned there, but I have no real knowledge about it.

-Technically (legally) they are usually valid in the EU as engineering degrees if legally required somewhere.

Bme degrees fully adhere to the eqf system so they can be accredited pretty much everywhere in the world.

I failed engineering mathematics 8 times at BMF (now called Óbudai Egyetem) and dropped out. From material science, I attended every lecture in the first semester, failed once, got through the resit. For the second semester, I attended none of the lectures, didn't read any notes and showed up to the exam drunk. I passed for the first time and got a decent mark. This was now a long-ish time ago, but I don't believe that the Hungarian higher-education system as a whole has improved since. Of course, take it or leave it, I am just a random internet stranger.

I went abroad in 2009, graduated twice (electronic engineering and neuroscience, focusing on signal processing) and now I have a PhD. Some of the scumbags at Kandó are still there. I hope I'll never meet them. Makes my blood boil evey time thinking about how many lives they have ruined. BME is not much of an exception, either.

It is my experience in Hungary that lecturers and academic staff are openly hostile to teaching and students, the general attitude is that 'if you don't understand this then you are stupid', and their arrogance is not even remotely in proportion with their academic achievements and competence in their subject. 'Ötösre én tudom'. In many cases, they literally called us idiots for wanting to become engineers in a country that has no engineering jobs or manufacturing industry. They intentionally latinise everything to make it sound grandiose, at the same time they easily teach stuff that was tangentially relevant 30 years ago.

Admission will be easy, especially if you are a foreign student and have money. You can pretty much forget about any sort of an internaltional collaboration, unless you are well-connected and you can organise it top-to-bottom.

Not sure about the probability of graduation, apparently I was too stupid for them.

Most eastern-europeans in the West, at least in the professional and academic environments, are not treated as equals, and only can find job well below their qualifications and capabilites. And you may be really good in nodal voltage analysis and Gaussian elimination, but if you can't program an FPGA or at the very least an MCU, you probably won't achieve much.
