Name of Hungarian street food condiment?

When I visited Hungary about 12 years ago for a festival I had so much amazing food. I have a vague memory of some sort of paprika oil/sauce/chutney that was on the side of every savoury food stall/truck. You had to scoop it with a spoon. I can only assume it was some sort of sweet paprika. I would really love to have it again if anyone knows what I may be talking about.

Thank you so much!!! I suspected that could have been it with a vague google search but I wanted to be sure before paying import prices for a little jar!

Import prices? You can make it at home. 600g fresh sweet paprika, 400g fresh spicy paprika, 200g salt.
Cut the stems, leave the seeds in. Throw it in a blender. Blend. Add salt, stir until it dissolves. Put it in sterilised jars.

I think it's Erős Pista or Édes Anna. Erős Pista is a bit spicy, Édes Anna is sweeter.

Haragos Pista if you feel a bit kinky tonight

There is also Ajvár, that is made of paprika I think and is red-ish(maybe orange?), but it's a different flavor profile than erős pista or édes anna

Or maybe Piros arany?

Depends on the texture and flavour profile imo, if it had bits/seeds in it it was Erős Pista, if it was a smooth (like mayo or mustard) it was Piros Arany. If you want spicy you can go up one level and try Haragos Pista, that's the more hardcore version lol and I think there's a csípős version of Piros Arany as well (the regular/sweeter one is the one called csemege)

Thank you. That’s good to know, I love mustard so it would be worth a try anyways.

Or Édes Anna (looks the same).

It was probably “Erős Pista” that you had.
