The original (and far superior) telling of this has little Johnny run into the hospital, where his grandfather lays sick, ahead of his grandmother, who promised him they could go to Disneyland when Grandpa croaked.

This telling makes no sense. Grandpa’s not sick, there’s no given reason why Johnny’s mother would be tied down by her father, and for some reason Johnny is excited about Florida in general and not Disneyland.

I jest, but if it being an entirely different joke is the case, there are still much better ways to tell it.

“Mom says that when you croak, we’re going to live in a mansion!”

“Mom says that when you croak, we’re gonna buy a house next to Disneyland!”

Etc etc.
