Yeppers!! Apple really did price one of its early computers at $666.66, but it wasn’t for any sinister reason. The machine was the Apple I, released in 1976 by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. Why $666.66? Wozniak liked repeating numbers – He has said he chose the price simply because it was easy to type and remember. Also, markup math. Apple sold the computer to retailers for about $500, and retailers typically marked it up by about one-third which put it at landing at $666.66.^(*)
