Are there more open border locations with train stations like Komárom and Esztergom?

I am talking about borders you can easily cross on foot, and there being something other than just roads/forest within the first 1km after leaving Hungary. Thank you

You didn't really specify which border, so I'm going to recommend Szentgotthárd at the Austrian border.
The original line ran to Jennersdorf/Gyanafalva, which is still a good 10/15km from Szentgotthárd, which is the border station.
You can get off the train in Szentgotthárd, hike up to the battle of Szentgotthárd memorial cross in Mogersdorf.

Thanks. The reason I did not specify is that every hop off train-cross the border opportunity on foot would be interesting no matter the country.

Sátoraljaújhely and Slovenske Nove Mesto. You pass the border and there is a train station right on the other side.

It's sad how we always complain about Trianon, and how it cut railway connections between the countries, but don't make an effort to restore them now that both countries are in Schengen.
Tornanádaska - Torna nad Bodvou There is about a kilometer track missing, there could be cross-border service to Kosice.
Bánréve - Lenartovce The tracks are there, but no passenger cross-border service.
Somoskőújfalu - Siatorska Bukovinka Tracks are there, they have been even refurbished on the Slovakian side, but the cross-border services to Lucenec has been terminated.
Ipolytarnóc - Kalonda The tracks are there, but no passenger cross-border service, eventhough Lucenec is close.
Drégelypalánk - Sahy About 2km tracks have been torn up to make cross-border service impossible.

Petitions signed by people in the area are the kind of thing which would bring the topic into attention.
For example, there have been talks for at least 25 years regarding a new bridge over the Maros, between Timiș and Csongrad counties, and, it finally looks that there is a chance for the railway traffic between Timișoara and Mako/Szeged area to restart again (in a few years, perhaps).

Thanks. So, no good option for going close to the Croatian border, crossing it, and returning the same day without a car?
FewSprinkles4359@reddit
Exactly, nope. I don't even get why would someone do that - if you can drive with your car to near the border, you could already cross it with it...

I do not have a car when I am in Hungary, but I go on daytrips. Thanks.
FewSprinkles4359@reddit
Ah so perhaps I misunderstood you - are you talking about daytrips like going with public transportation, while being based in Budapest?
tjomski79@reddit (OP)
Yeah, or sometimes from Győr.

Idk about train stations, but there are tons of villages just outside the border

Not really
