Hungary petrol and gas reserves and extraction?

Hello everybody! I am hearing a lot in the last days about Orban, Hungary, oil pipes from Russia that are ruined by Ukrainians and so on. Orban saying that Hungary's energetic security is at threat and mobilising army. Question: why don't Hungary extract it s own oil and gas from its soil, like moat countries do? For example Romania started exploiting gas reserves at Neptune Deep that will be enought for the whole country for around 15 years. Bulgaria has gas and oil too, Serbia has its consume covered around 25%, Austria has around 6% and so on...I mean by fracking you can extract gas from everywhere

They are prospecting every year for new deposits for exemple last year they announced some new spots. And about production "MOL is the largest hydrocarbon producer in Hungary, producing at almost 1300 oil and natural gas wells. You are a Burduja fan? 😂 Go read some on Groningen gas field and the earthquakes there just from normal exploitation, fracking is worst. So hopefully not, clean water > hydrocarbons.

Currently, if we don't get oil from the brotherhood pipeline, we would need it elsewhere. We have 2 pipelines coming to Hungary: From Croatia and from Ukraine. As Ukraine does not want to repair the pipeline(or just restart it), we would use the Croatian pipeline, which is not capable of managing this amount of oil, but the Croatian leaders disallow us to use it for political reasons with cheaper oil (3-4 weeks ago, before this was in the news, the oppostion went to negotiate with Croatia in a friendly matter, maybe the way to hurt the Hungarian oil needs before the election, how nice of them...), so we have 2 pipelines coming to Hungary, but we cannot use it for political reasons, even the EU agreement allow us to get cheaper oil but the croatian gov disallows it right before our election time. (no, thats not interferred with the elections... /s) Oh, and the croatian prices for transit are 5 times higher than the EU avg. We have our own oil and gas extractions, but they are not enough, we need to import a huge amunt of it, to be able to export to Ukraine/Slovakia. It is/was a good money for MOL, which was getting taxed, and then it could support other fields in the country (mainly gas for heating purposes for residentals), that's why Hungary was able to be the cheapest in other energy fields for residentals. If we cannot have russian oil, this cheap energy for homes would be a dream in a year, and we will be screwed, even, if we get example usa oil, which price is much higher. We have no sea, so we cannot get directly lng or random oil tanks to give us cheaper energy, we would need pipelines to be built around the country, but not through ukraine a 2nd, as they are not trustworthy.

Do not consume propaganda. It will make you sick. And one more thing: this is not a subreddit for political topics. 1. The Russians destroyed a pipeline in Ukraine, the Ukrainians are repairing it, but they haven't managed to fix it completely yet. 2. The current Orbán regime is only causing panic because it thinks it's a good topic to mobilize voters. 3. We are currently producing oil in Hungary. This is all about money. The difference between Ural oil and other oils goes to the NER (the oligarchs behind the current government).

Orban is lying, the Hungarian energetic security is completely safe. He is just demonstrating power as a tool for his election campaign. Also, my father worked for 35 years in the Hungarian oil industry searching for oil and gas. Hungary's own reserves are almost depleted, what's left is too deep down to extract at a price worth the effort. Some fields are still operating of course, but at a low production rate. The oil refinery at Szászhalombatta uses mostly foreign, imported crude oil.

We produce some Oil but it's negligible, Hungary doesn't have much of any mineral.
