In the first school I worked at, in the science supply closet, we found a periodic table so old it was just a rectangle.

We found a big salad bowl full of mercury in ours. It had been covered in Saran Wrap at some point. My mom went to the same school and she remembers moving mercury around on a paper plate with magnets.

Today I learned mercury is magnetic.

What was the periodic table the rest of the time?
ElectricPaladin@reddit
Right now it's like two high rectangles with a long rectangle between them and also a very long skinny rectangle below it.

“On our school’s budget, we could only afford a periodic table with ten elements - and they were all lanthanides.” (Principal Skinner, The Simpsons)
Ambitioso@reddit

I really did have an encyclopedia so old that the Chemistry entry included "dirt" as a raw material. (Descriptions showed awareness of details of materials which later led to the Periodic Table.)

My high school was so backward they taught the periodic table in sex ed.

We still get the wind periodically around here ... and a few folks who shamelessly break wind.

My HS was so outdated that we used the same car for Drivers Ed and Sex Ed!
