Can you help me with my computer

I'm currently living in a group home. Most people are not computer literate (they spell computer with a "k"). I frequently sit in the common area and am on a computer. So, people with cell phone or computer issues have been coming to me and I've always helped out.
There is this one gentleman for over a month (on and off) kept asking me to help him with his computer. I kept to bring me the computer. So, one day he actually does so, puts the computer down and tells me the battery is dead. I say to okay, where is the power cord? (he doesn't have one). I tell him I can't do anything without power to the computer.
Sadly enough, he really did believe I could help him with his computer even tho it had no power.

Back in the day... I was patient, God like patience.
One day I helped a blind grandmother and her deaf granddaughter resolve an email snafu over the phone. Eventually I was burnt to a crisp. My last day I yelled at an old lady because she didn't know what right and left clicking meant.
The owner took me to lunch at El Jimador. He gently told me my days at his little ISP had come to an end. He and his wife now own a big sports bar, where my money is no good.

In my experience there are two basic types of computer users. The most common ones are task-centered, i.e., they view the computer through what they are trying to do. A minority of users are device-centered, with a conceptual understanding of the various parts that make a computer usable and useful. The majority are easily stumped if something goes wrong outside of their task-centered viewpoint. The minority are beset with the majority.

I think the same is true of cars, but the majority can still manage to put gas in the car.

But for some reason when a mechanic calls someone an idiot for running out of gas the third time today, society doesn't get offended on the idiot's behalf.

Those who are not taught basics, switch on; switch off, plug in etc deserve your help to learn. I 'tutor' elderly (average age 85) for a local social group. Some are very bright and learn others plod along; the normal human mixture. Please enjoy teaching the elderly, it keeps them in the present world and relevant.

and that is why I all those that ask for my help, I help and do teach those that want to be taught
