That's painful. Get this, though. I had two more years of alimony to pay when a friend of mine called and said, "Did you hear your ex-wife died," I had not. In fact, her son (my step-son) had cashed two of my alimony checks after she had died (of leukemia, I found out.) It felt like watching your mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your brand new Porsche.

Never got it back. I asked the executor of her estate to return it but to no avail. In the end, I just let it go and 6 months later, the son died from chronic alcoholism.
