I can’t believe I have to make this reply on a post where I just wanted to tell a joke I found funny, but some of yall are fucked up.

This joke was by no means meant to be transphobic, and if you thought it was, then that’s probably my bad and I could’ve phrased it better, but it’s genuinely sad how many transphobic comments there are.

If you’re saying transphobic shit, please do us all a favor, and fuck off. I can’t stop you from believing it, but at least don’t make everyone uncomfortable by saying it.

I started my post saying all humour is fine. (And my heart wants that to be true!)

But what's off for me on this one, despite intially liking the word play, is I don't think any transparents would make it. I would never reference any potential accidenta genderl assignments made at birth. Deadnaming/deadgendering is one of the most hurtful things to do, even accidentally, especially intentionally to hurt, and a joke falls between these ranges.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. It seems to me that mainstream, conservative society actually recognizes three gender categories, even if they don’t want to acknowledge the third one. They are male, female, and.fagg*t. They don’t recognize transgender women as women, but they also don’t give them the same respect they give men, and instead put them in a third category of people it is OK to bully or assault, because they are “defective” men, as evidenced by the fact that they so profoundly fail at upholding male gender expectations.

Male gender roles don’t just serve as a system of privilege, but a contract with terms that need to be upheld, and severe penalties for failing to do so.

Nah, the not all conservatives are bigots. I live in a red state, in construction, so you can imagine most of my coworkers are conservative. They'll talk a bit of shit behind closed doors, but most are just a bit confused by non-binary folks. My foreman's niece/nephew (I'm not sure what the neutral term for that is) came out as trans recently, and he made some jokes with me that you'd probably find tasteless, but we spoke about it and it sounds like he's accepting of how they want to live their life, even if he doesn't quite understand, and wouldn't push his opinions onto them. I'm conservative myself, and non-binary folks can make me a bit uncomfortable, especially m2f, but I don't say anything about it very often, and try to stay respectful. I even have some gay/trans friends online that I don't distance myself from, I think of it as a bit of an exposure therapy, to help treat my minor transphobia, like desensitizing myself of those emotions.

If you assume people are going to be bigots just because they dont agree with your politics, you'll miss out on a lot of decent friends you could have had, my greatest political opinion is that political opinions shouldn't divide friends or family. By all means, don't try to befriend bigots, but realize that not every decent person will agree with your every opinion, and not everyone that shares your political party is a decent person. I'm willing to accept this fact, you should consider it too. And as I said in my previous comment, I have some minor transphobia. Not by choice, just my brain is wired to think it's wierd, and it makes me a bit uncomfortable, but I still respect and sometimes even befriend those folks. But I imagine you refuse to respect anyone that doesn't share your political opinions, and never challenge yourself. Empathy is the idea of putting yourself in other people's shoes, not trying on an identical pair that happens to belong to someone else.

And whatever, non-binary, trans, gay, I personally just don't care enough to bother learning the ins and outs of the LGBT community because it doesn't affect me personally, but I'll give y'all the respect of just saying "they" if you don't seem to be conforming to traditional gender roles. Please return the favor by trying to treat your neighbors and family like human beings if they aren't going out of their way to disrespect you.

I'm pretty sure the bare minimum is respect, I know some folks prefer he, or she, and others prefer they. I just said, I try to keep it gender neutral when I'm unsure. Also, as i said, I'm not saying every single conservative is a good person, I even stated most bigots are conservative. My point is that you shouldnt judge an entire group of people based on the actions of a few. That's quite literally how things like racism are born, when people form a collective opinion about a group because 10 percent did or said stupid shit. We're just as human as you.

I read trans daughter as trans girl so only supportive dad would say it... but i guess trans daughter could mean they had a daughter who is trans meaning either a trans girl no son (i acknowledge you are now my daughter) or a trans boy (I have no son because you are not a boy)

The po8nt I was making about the part that hurts my brain is that in the case of taking it as a statement of disowning and saying "i have no son" they are saying what would be correct...

That's why I like my alternate viewing taking the term trans daughter as used by both supportive and unsupportive fathers.... supportive father has trans daughter according to him he says i have no son because his daughter is a trans girl...according to the unsupportive father he has a "trans daughter" who is a trans boy and so both the term "trans daughter" and the statement "I have no son" are completely aligned in both cases.
