Failed Intranets

Hi all - I am doing research for a project on intranet successes and failures. I seem to be having a hard time finding specific intranets that have failed in the past. Is anyone aware of actual intranets that have failed and/or been abandoned? I would love to look it over to see the very specific reasons. I have my general research and reasonings, but I want examples. And just in case, if you have any experience with intranets you love or have had great experiences with, drop those too! Thanks :)

What do you define as an intranet? Most.companies have internal to them only websites which may be considered an intranet.

I am not sure if I can explain it any better than you did - but I’m doing research on a specific intranet for a company. We are doing secondary research to understand why intranets are considered problematic or obsolete to some and how we can improve the internal server. But I know that there are certain companies that have had to abandon that form of communication and work and I was just curious as to which ones if that makes sense

Sites that I know which were replaced or abandoned were because of cost and need. Their usefullness was realized yet access was desired outside the LAN so others (customers, vendors etc) could access it. So that wasn't a failure, just expanded need. Others were shuttered and moved ouside the LAN due to cost. Outsourcing an internally maintained site came desireable when staffing changed and hosting an internal resouce made more sense on a paid host externally. I still have many internal websites which will probably never see an outside WAN access. Hope this helps.
