Why don't sharks bite lawyers?

There are only about 70 shark attacks per year and about 0.25% of the population are lawyers, so it is statistically unlikely.

Gee, I thought it was professional courtesy
KidKilobyte@reddit
Because lawyers are always eager to help out loan sharks
Immediate_Dinner6977@reddit
Nothing to do with professional courtesy, then?

The OP is posting a sort of meta-joke that presumes the reader is familiar with the usual punchline (typically "professional courtesy", though we would also accept "because they leave a bad taste in your mouth") and subverts that expectation by giving a 'serious' answer to the question.

So, no then? Seems like a lot of words to just say it doesn’t have anything to do with professional courtesy.
UglyThoughts_@reddit
it was a meta-explanation. yall expect a short one, so they subvert that and gave a detailed answer.
puertomateo@reddit
He was being courteous by giving a professional-level explanation.

I've heard that as the punchline to "Why don't snakes bite lawyers".
HowlingWolven@reddit
Counterpoint: lawyers can afford to go on vacation more often and would thus present a higher rate of exposure to sharks.
Marquar234@reddit (OP)
They can, but do they? The stereotypical lifestyle of a lawyer seems to be long hours and overworking, not work-life balance and seaside vacations.
puertomateo@reddit
Yeah. "My family is going to the beach house. I'll still be available on my laptop for most of the day, other than 1:00 - 1:45 when I promised them I'd spend time with them."
Marquar234@reddit (OP)
"But I'll bill them the full hour."
Endy0816@reddit
There's a reason why sharks lack arms and legs.

This is why sharks only bite statisticians
dhruvin2201@reddit
What is the difference between a lawyer and a vampire ? Law School
spidermike4498@reddit
If they did it would lead to a lawsuit and fines
HuttVader@reddit
This sounds like a Late Night With Jimmy Valmer kind of joke.
Try again in ten years. May be funnier then.
