Actually the country of Turkey has been working hard to get the name changed in English speaking places because of the negative connotations of the word “turkey.” What overly sensitive turkeys.

Oh. I have also heard it pronounced Turkeyer, with the last sound being schwa /ə/, the end sound of mother, farmer, and doctor. Apologies if that's not correct
