You keep using that word "accountable". To me, accountability is something that gets exercised AFTER a system fails. Obviously pulling FOSS off the internet without care is not going to be any more secure than trusting blobs of binary data from random suppliers. But when using maintained and well trafficked FOSS the security team is able to track and patch vulnerabilities in real time at the source level instead of waiting for a vendor to send out an update with the tag "trust me I totally fixed it this time". Look into the xz vulnerability that was recently discovered. In a proprietary system, the end user would likely just have to live with the slowdown and not be able to do the bug hunt. And it's not like suppliers are immune to supply chain attacks, we have solarwinds to prove that. Do you believe that accountability is what makes a system secure at runtime?

I'll let the MBAs worry about "accountability". In a conversation about technology I care about actual security. Where frankly, the FOSS community is doing a consistent job of straight up embarrassing the MBAs and all their proprietary crap.

Except they aren't? Paper doesn't protect anyone from malware. Sure you can sue, but suing a shell that doesn't have any money from a country that doesn't care isn't going to undo whatever damage has been done, prevent any stolen data from being sold, or clean any secondary malware from your system.

Genuinely, thank you. I know many conservatives are good people and I sincerely look forward to the day that I can consider in good faith voting for a conservative candidate. What the party is doing now (and in my opinion has been for the last decade) is not in alignment with the values that I have come to expect from my conservative friends and family, so it is incredibly baffling to me to watch so many people that I thought I just disagree with on politics decide that they would love to be represented by the defenders of an international cabal of pedophiles. That isn't what conservative means, and shouldn't be what conservatives vote for, but here we are.

Traditionally in America we vote, and we use The Constitution for a shared legal system. We did vote, and Trump won. That means he is going to do things I disagree with. But he and his party are supposed to work within the law, not just allow their agents to kill with immunity. Legality and morality are often separate concepts because of the disagreement, and usually the compromise is to allow a bit more leeway in legality than morality to accommodate that uncommon ground. I don't think the ideal is to nuke the world, and I suspect you don't either. Nihilistic resignation to injustice is a pitiful and weak reaction.

"So I say do whatever is legal." I actually agree with you here. But I don't think shooting a man who is on his hands and knees after his gun is safely removed from the situation is legal. You are strawmanning that I believe he was completely in the right and that ICE shouldn't have interacted with him at all. I just don't think they should have killed him. If they had reason to arrest him then I think they should have afforded him due process. Do you side with the ATF at Ruby Ridge and Waco, because the victims' actions caused the agents to respond how they did?

You do realize that a large number of J6'ers (who were pardoned by the party of law and order) were convicted of violent crimes committed on that day that were recorded on camera? No, not everyone at J6 was a violent criminal. But a large number were, we both watched live as they broke into our nations capitol and attacked police. Also yes, spitting on people is assault for which Alex should have been held to account for in a court of law. Last I checked the penalty for assault wasn't public execution 11 days later. Do you hear what you are saying?

Fantastic question. The main difference is that Alex is dead and he never got to spend a moment in a courtroom, and all of the J6 rioters who broke into the Capitol and were convicted of crimes outside their first amendment to protest got pardoned.

I don't think conservatives owe me anything. But without some attempt to make amends I'm forced to assume they deliberately chose over the last decade what they told me and demonstrate that they deliberately chose repeatedly for the last decade. Let's take a look at that source. On their website under "about us" let's check out "What does do no harm do?" The first sentence is "We draw attention to the radical ideology of anti-racism in healthcare." They self describe as "We are a national association of medical professionals combatting the attack on our healthcare system from woke activists" I don't think that they are an objective or unbiased source. In fact, I may go so far as to imply that they are a highly politically motivated source and their assertions should be approached with scrutiny instead of being directly quoted as fact.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not going to disingenuously argue that EVERY person who is on probation is attempting to work through the citizenship process. However, not everyone who is undocumented is completely disengaged with the immigration process. They may have an application pending, or be between court appearances while working towards citizenship. Somebody who's parents brought them across the border illegally 10 or 20 years ago may be trying to resolve that situation so that they can continue living in the country they have grown up in (USA). Those people are technically undocumented, are trying to get their citizenship, and have no other "home country" that it makes any sense to deport them to. Obviously there isn't a universal and constant story for each individual, which is why we use due process to assess each unique situation.
