Why were "adult" directors able to get us in the 80's & 90's, but today's are less than clueless?

I don't think people who live in the past are assholes, to each their own. But, I prefer to move on and enjoy the newer things I discovered, and continue to discover, later in life.

It's because you're old, and no longer the target demographic for anything. Everything is created for the newer generations. All our favorite bands, that used to sell out arenas, are now playing casinos in the desert. We've aged out of relevance.

Do you make your kids watch the stuff you grew up with? Do they like it?

I don't *make* my son watch anything, but he became interested in my stuff while I was watching War of the Worlds (the Tom Cruise version). We started joining me regularly and it quickly turned into movie nights. We watch at least one a week, from comedies (like Three Amigos) to horror (The Thing). He's loved all of it, but it's wonderful to see he has his own tastes and preferences in movies. He seems to love alien invasion movies, War of the Worlds and Cloverfield being his favorites.
