That’s it for me. In fact if you’re not putting the cocaine back in then stop messing about with other varieties and just give me the good full fat stuff.

Yeah, literally the only name here tgat has any resonance with Brits is Brooklyn and that’s purely because of Brooklyn Beckham. I assume he was named that for being conceived on the bridge or something… I do not personally know anyone with those front names…

I don't know which dept you're in or grade you're at but the civil service offers a variety of apprenticeship opportunities and these can include educational aspects and even degrees. People tend to think they are only for school leavers but there's often no age limit. The other thing is to see if you can get a role within the corporate centre or IT, grades tend to be a lot higher there so a good possibility of progression and you don't need to be a mega techie for it. there's a variety of roles in IT for which you don't need to be a programmer or sysadmin or anything. might be worth looking into. One thing I would say is not to discount the value of the pension. Defined Benefit pensions are hard to find these days but the civil service is one plaec that still has them. If you can build up a good pension over your career then you'll be well looked after in retirement.

well, I can't speak for Scotland as I live south of the border but here calling it HP sauce is just a little posher, but ultimately a synonym for brown sauce.. many of the greasy spoons are not buying branded sauces hence red and brown vs heinz and HP...

Do you eat your fish and chips with vinegar?

Posted by Zestyclose_Secret549@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 176 comments

fyonn@reddit

Yup. Vinegar is brewed, which is more expensive than just mixing some chemicals which is why chippy vinegar has its own taste.. it’s not technically vinegar.. it’s not that far off but it is different and if you find a bottle of chip shop vinegar in the shop’s, it won’t actually claim to be vinegar, just non-brewed condiment…

It does annoy me though when they put the chips in the box, put the fish on top and then put the salt and “vinegar” on the fish… no, it’s for the chips, putting it on the fish will make the batter soggy…

Almost no-one does eat their chippy tea with vinegar as practically no chip shop has any. Non-brewed condiment however, that’s the stuff.

What is everyones favourite big bag of crisps?

Posted by m-o_t-h@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 174 comments

fyonn@reddit

I learnt an evil secret last year… if you go on Amazon you can buy newsagent sized boxes of the slightly larger bags of crisps.. like 45g instead of the usual supermarket 25g.. box of 36 bags and Amazon will deliver it to your house next day… They tend to just stick an address label on the crisp box though, rather than put it in another box to hide your shame… Oh, and McCoys Thai sweet chicken, and Real strong cheese and onion are often my choices…

Do the English call an “English Muffin” just “a muffin”?

I can't say that variety fairy cakes don't exist, but I've never seen one... and yes, a fairy cake is usually fairly flat on top, and often has icing a sprinkles. When you make a slightly larger fairy cake and put a lot of soft icing on top then it morphs into a cupcake...
