I didn't say it was easy, l think it's unlikely that we will be able to change the course of things. But if we don't even try, just prepare to pay monthly microslop for Windows because you won't have a choice anyway.

Well, you can if you are ready to fight lawsuits. If you can (which is not the case of most distributions out there) you can decide to just not comply with the laws that apply to you. And don't worry, if age verification isn't at a discussion stage in your country it will be soon.

Name mail phone and adresse fields already exist in userdb btw. And like the birthdate field they are optional and simple to modify. You can just not set them or lie. And if it becomes a source of data for age verification it will not be hard to bypass or lie in it. Are these regulations good? No, they are here to track real people on the internet and will have a huge negative impact on open source. But you can't fight these laws with the absence of compliance, you have to persuade legislators that this is a really bad thing and they should not do it (even if they got money to do that).

More states are requiring operating systems to ask for age via ID, such as Windows, Mac, Linux, etc. How do us hackers fight back?

Have something that could do the ID auth for Linux, but like really and working. BUT make it so it's not mandatory for the system to work, so if you want you can just disable/uninstall it.

Some things will not change if they're not required too. Steam will not support Wayland if they can just say "use X", even dropping X11 they may say "use X Wayland". Also, a lot is done so things don't go instantly wrong, like xwayland and pulse support in pipewire so you can run your Xorg pulse audio app on Wayland without too much issue, but you will not see a lot of bugs until people have to change, and for that you need to make the switch. The difference with Windows or MacOS is that if they said "you need to update all gui because we are changing the display server in 6month." People may be mad, but 6 month later, any Windows or mac software with support will work on the new solution.

After so many years of being a (silver) member of Linux Foundation, Epic Games Store still has no native client for Linux. I am baffled... Why?

Maybe booth. I don't know about how it can work for tax work for them but for the investment part the thing is that they need their linux systems to work and be secure, but it would be really inefficient to pay people in hose to be sure that linux will work and be secure, so they pay the main project that maintain linux in a working and secure state.
