Never had a home lab, I am just selfhosting. It is a lot of fun and actually useful to me. 90% of my projects die in the process.

What's your quick trick that every sysadmin should know?

Never really loved it, I like the IaC parts but the GUI stuff feels just like a downgrade. More GUI just feels wrong to me.

He asked if we could not use Endpoint Manager instead of Intune. Yes names changed but still... After 3 months he asked what the servicedesk url was, he uses it for work. Added a new disk to a windows system did not know to take it online and to initialize it. Said can you help me with Linux? If it were Ubuntu I could update it myself, he was on the only Ubuntu system we have.

Nr 1. Once formated the wrong system in a nested RDP session trying out Powershell commands. One doctors office down for a whole afternoon. Nr 2. Used mirror mode in Robocopy, this deletes files at the destination not found at the source. Then accidentally switched the drive letters. Was very lucky I did not let it finish and it somehow did not follow hard links leaving many important folders unharmed. And of course no backups available, as it would have been too much data.

Well, today I fucked up by sending an email to the entire company

Aah you give me hope that my fire for this never stops. I recently asked myself if it is possible. 12 years in and still setting up services and tinkering at homs.

How do you explain to your family and friends that you're not an IT call center without them yelling at you with angry faces?

From fortigate 7.0.11 to 7.0.12 killed ipsec tunnels on 1 out of 3 firewalls. If you are facing this, try to downgrade before doing a night shift.

We link 1Password entries to my server entries, no more PWs. PW gets updated in 1Password, no problem it is updated live. Jumphost needed? No problem just add it and connect like it is in the same network.

The note the hacker left on 10,000+ infected computers at my work. They also hijacked our entire network at the large company I work for. It’s been a long month.
