$850 on eBay from some guy in Canada. Then I got a letter 2 months later for a $400 tariff bc it originated in china and I bought from Canada. 👍 so not financially worth it. You’d be better off get a 3 slot and waterblocking your house. Multi-benefit vs trying to fit the 4 slot scope. They didn’t make a ton of 4 slot. But look on eBay. It took me 2 weeks. I was even going to source from Iran but y’know politics and all. The guy was cool, willing to help, but getting the money was not easy. Transport was fairly doable. Too complicated for that.

That vendor from Ali express hmu and said he has 4090s 4090d and below. Said they were working on the 5090 but couldn’t give me any other info than that. Then deleted our chat after he sent me a video of the 4090 with 48gb

As long as they don’t brick my 4090d babies, I’ll be ok. I’m on the latest driver and I am scared to go up. They do work and even then when going multi model it still isn’t enough. Someone mentioned that the 5090 has no BAR so having multi card is useless for inference? But would still train/fine tune ok? am I backwards or wrong on that? I’m glad nvidia put sli back in the control panel bc the nvlinked 3090tis are locked in. I see what you did there lol ok point noted. Learning has been fun with this. This is also a big thing everyone can use a little piece of vs vue. Google made this walkthrough that I think is really useful for people to even browse through and print the sheets they give you to fill out. https://pair.withgoogle.com/guidebook/

Thank you for this explanation. Could I have an engineering language model? It gets fed all the scholarly books on mechanical and electrical. I’m curious how text vs image works. Bc in my head I’d want it to have the text and then apply it to the images. Ex: it knows electrical and mechanical. Paste in a pdf of a wiring diagram and ask where the missing fuse should go? Would you be able to share some recommended resources to check out the building of a language model.

Ok, so the foundational sounds like it needs to be taught vs tuned. So it will grow? Then what’s its proportioned ratio of size and growth? Time to dive into that info

I just bought the 4090 48gb gpu that matches brand of my first …the pair cost around $6000. Thanks company dollars. Max your ram out, have a 3000 series card or newer with 12gb vram or more. You’ll have plenty to poke around with. Once you sense it, you can use the 5060ti in vllm with something better.

Breaking into the IT field

I don’t know, I hope what I say has any value. Don’t let what I say deter you. Let it make you hungrier, if not more insightful. Hmm I sit here and think “I remember being you” I also remember reading people’s answers and never felt like they were telling me anything. Bc it’s tough with text since we love things in as few words as possible. For my creds, I have been self taught it feels this whole time. Some guidance and some friends I’ve met along the way. A few colleagues and my predecessor is a huge help. What I can say is I can confidently give you a legit answer: None of that cert shit truly matters…that’s half true…it does prove you passed the test and at one point knew something but without experience I wouldn’t hire someone with just certs, but I would hire someone with experience over someone who has just certs. And all this is saying… You know what matters? Experience. Experience, and the ability to understand the concept, or aptitude, of the cert you just learned. Sad thing about certs without experience, as you know, is retaining it. So, my suggestion would be, get any help desk job to get that tech experience on the board, then find out what you like. Answer the questions below for some reflection and insight into your pathing and choices. Find the role or roles that align with that. Whatever you decide, get a test environment up. Find free YT courses, but also get a Udemy and get their courses too. Subscribe to all the YouTubers you find interesting and get your keys dirty. Bc my hands clean af boi. Soft and smooth over here like a real man. Not some laboring broke back at 50 type. Someone can correct me but there isn’t much that won’t fall under dev, devops, ops, infraops, infrastructure. <s>Essentially find the OSI layer you really like and look to the neighbors of it. You found your current interest(s). <\s> Or get into tech sales, but that’s very demanding. Ask yourself: “why do I want to get into IT?” - $$$, not physical laboring, gets all the women /s, tech is my hobby , love learning, etc.. “What do I think is cool in IT? Ex: development, infrastructure, networking, the people in IT /s, etc… “Am I willing to always be learning?” - I mean, there is no time you shouldn’t be learning unless you’re perched with 5-8 years left.** “Am I willing to make tech become a hobby?” - that’s if it isn’t already. If it is.. “Am I willing to give up my hobby?” Lol jk ..to some degree it’s like taking music lessons. You can’t rely on the lessons alone to make you good. “How does ai make me feel? Do I use ai?”- bc you better start learning what it can do for you. It’s not going anywhere. And someone using it will be more efficient. In short, if you want this then do it. Don’t let anyone here steer you in or away anymore than you want to. Do it, I’m grateful I did. I love it and I’m burnt tf out rn but I still enjoy the tech. I’ve learned to make it my hobby bc I knew that would get me that edge needed to ascend. I have 0 certs. I went through a+, about 70% of the ccna Udemy videos, and I watched AWS practitioners exam. I’m a small fry, but I can pick up anything you throw at me. That’s where my value comes in. Where does yours? Thanks for listening to my TED talk. Good luck! 🫡

I can tell you from recent experience. The mental decline is real. I’m usually strong, and have overcome a lot. The pressure and demand broke me to the point HR and coworkers tell me to leave. I do everything you mentioned, except I don’t do the dev/web server or db management. Thankfully! But I do handle batteries to isp/service/software contracts. To rolling out ai (Gemini and ChatGPT) and informing ppl about it. The world is my oyster, and I’ll suck it up for now. Tho at $101k, I’d rather make $20k less and be that much happier or give me the $125k I should’ve been given and let this mental toll be worth it.

We have both and I’m trying my best to find the clear path to SSO with premium or E3, but I tend to come across pain points like with new outlook causing teams to not auto choose a teams meeting (haven’t dug into it yet). Although, I will say I like having features from both. It can be tough being solo and managing everything and knowing it all but I must say Google has been dropping a lot of updates. And both Microsoft and Google’s docs have gotten a lot better.

Are people actually moving away from VMware ESXi, if they are where are they going (Hyper-V, OpenShift Virtualization, etc)?

Cdw guy told me nutanix was being sold the most, that he saw. He just did a 5yr contract for around $70k. 3yr was $85? Iirc. I’m small and moved 2 VMs temporarily to hyper-v. We don’t need anything fancy. WAC helps a lot and it has a hybrid to azure for when we do. For $6700 you get server 2025 (and below) and get unlimited windows VMs.

Just learned the \\hostname\c$ command and it blew my mind

Patch panels are oddly placed. I’d see how much slack you have to the back of the punch panels. Could get a floor rack and re-rack everything. Then you can run/hide the cables nicely. Otherwise, get same color cable cat-6, a labeler, and get some Velcro strips to tighten everything up. I have worse switch closets and server room. “If it works, don’t touch it”

Coming up on 5 years. I started at $35k. I’m at $95k now. I’m told in 6 months I’ll see about a $20k bump. That’ll be when I transition to take over the dept (of 2 lol) The quickest jump was from $65k to now, which happened in under 2 years. Im happy, who needs a home network when you have a small-med company to play with? Im single, no kids, and I just so my thing. I party, I travel, but I take work seriously. Also, I have a drug felony/was an addict with over 6 years off the DoC. I worked hard to get here, so if anyone out there thinks they can’t do it bc of some baggage, get that out of your heads. Keep at it!

Experienced one of the best feelings in the world today. Problematic user got scolded his manager while complaining about IT.
