Honestly, I am truly dreadful when it comes to numbers. It just puts this fear into me as I can’t do it. Oh well, one can dream I guess. And yeah, unless it’s going to be a career then it’s not worth it.

I was wondering how people do this. I know a guy at work who is remortgaging his house so he can pay for his daughter’s lessons. I’d love to be a pilot, but I’m definitely not clever enough.

Haha I’ve heard about these men holding fish! I didn’t realise fishing was so popular! I can safely say that I have never done that. And it’s rather freeing isn’t it? Not having to sit there wasting your time on some useless app. I love being single, and wish more people could see how amazing it is.

I’m pretty boring, but I’d class the gym, reading, video games and learning piano as my hobbies. Talking of which, it always amuses me when you read dating advice for men and its ’have a hobby’. And yet when you go on the dating apps, 99% of women have no hobbies. It’s 6 selfies of them in a Wetherspoons toilet. I wouldn’t worry too much. Only do something if you enjoy it.

Volatile1989@reddit

Yep, perfectly normal. I’m 35M, and also been single for over 10 years. I don’t want them for various reasons. I don’t want the financial stress, the responsibility, sleepless nights etc etc. Most importantly, I don’t want them because I don’t like what this world has to offer. I’ve been put on this earth without having a say in it, and it’s fucking shit. I now have to suffer a mundane, shit life because I have to, not because I want to. So the least I can do is spare some other poor bastard from the misery.

I couldn’t give two shits about Christmas, and I’m fucking dreading tomorrow. So today is just a normal day. I’m working, then I’ll pop to the gym later, dinner and then either the pub or PlayStation.

Interesting, I watched Bad Sisters and enjoyed it. Then I tried Slow Horses… and didn’t enjoy it. Gave up in the second episode. Tried Severance, and got a bit further but I was forcing myself to watch it. I didn’t pay for Apple TV once the trial ended 😂

I really tried with Always Sunny, and I couldn’t do it. I see loads of comments saying how funny it is, and yeah I didn’t even get a smile out of it, let alone a laugh.

Anyone just not have any mates?

Volatile1989@reddit

I’m quite lucky as I have a small group of friends that I see on a regular basis. However, I feel like the days are numbered as I’m just waiting for them to settle down, and that’s the end of that. I don’t have a partner either, and as time goes on, I’m expecting to spend the vast majority of my time alone. I keep telling myself to try and make more friends, but I never do anything about it. So while I have friends now, I do worry about the future.

How are you planning on spending your Christmas?

You think you’ve got it bad, I’m single and can’t make new friends either! I’m not looking for a relationship as I don’t want one, but I’ve always struggled socially. Thankfully I’ve got a small group of friends but I’m just waiting for them to all settle down and I’m left alone.

Why don’t regulators step in when companies like O2 perform so poorly?

Posted by ajslov@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 70 comments

Volatile1989@reddit

I’m in the same boat as OP. I don’t know what’s happened, but it’s really poor service. I used to go to remote sites for work, and EE would struggle, and I’d always get a signal with O2. Now I’m struggling to get a signal at home, in the gym etc, and it’s incredibly annoying. I’ll be giving them up once my SIM only deal ends.

I don’t think it helps when he’s never had to pay out large sums for his education. He’s lived at home, saved tens of thousands, and yet he can’t pay a few thousand that will better himself in the long run. He’s on the verge of buying a house, and you should see his face when you tell him the cost of the fees! I think it’s going to be a massive wake up call when he leaves home. Thanks for your input though, I’ll pass on the message.

Do you still buy any physical media ?

Posted by ZeroCool5577@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 242 comments

Volatile1989@reddit

I’ve bought a few games, but not many. Book wise, I mix it up between physical books and my Kindle, although it’s mainly digital as I don’t want to store them. DVD/BR wise, nope, I haven’t bought them in years as I’d buy them and never watch them. I used torrents at one point, but again, I just couldn’t be bothered to watch them. If it appears on Netflix, then great. I’m at a point now where I’m getting bored of TV. I’ll watch for maybe an hour a day, but even then I’m struggling to find anything.

Thank you, I’ll pass on the message! Physically, it is exactly as I suspected. He’s pushing 30 now, and we have the same conversation every few months. He finds a job, and after a while he gets complacent, and then he starts debating whether to do a trade. He did a cheap course a while ago, but it’s not enough to do it professionally. What frustrates me, is that he never makes the jump. He’s debated training courses that are pricey, but he can’t see the long term investment. He’ll complain about courses that are £3k for example, and yet I was in nearly £20k of debt from uni. Do I complain? No, because it’s furthered my career prospects, and it’s paid off. And yet he can’t see that. I know he can afford it, but getting through to him is a nightmare. And in time, he’ll run out of opportunities once he settles down, kids come along etc etc. Oh well, I can only give him advice, whether he takes it, that’s up to him.

Would you avoid plastering altogether? Only reason I ask, is because a friend of mine was interested in pursuing it, and he sees it as the ‘best’ trade. Just wondering what your thoughts are.

You say it isn’t as complicated as it was, but I’ve noticed that younger people are not as technically competent as I was at that age. I’m only in my thirties, but I’ve seen apprentices fail to understand basic IT. The problem is, they’re used to apps and other lovely interfaces that make things a doddle. Ask them about the backend of it, or how to fix things, and they don’t have a clue. It might appear simple, but it really isn’t.

The worse thing is, they’re shit in my experience. Just this morning, engineers in India are asking us questions, so we respond with, ‘can you do this?’. They respond, but as usual they have misunderstood, and don’t have a clue as to what we’re on about. Granted, English isn’t their first language, but when the details are critical, it’s not good.

I don’t get the hype either. Some other poor bastard has to go out and spend hours staring into the abyss to try and get some footage. Attenborough just narrates, and yet somehow gets all of the credit.
