Do you think there’s a problem with work ethic amongst tradesmen in the UK?

Well as a building surveyor, all I see is tradesmen having the piss taken out of them. People don’t want to pay them for their work so they get ignored after providing quotes that they feel is reasonable for the time, effort, skill level and cost of materials. Just because it’s a small bathroom doesn’t mean it’s an easy job, quite the opposite really with the right spaces to put services, probably an awkward lay out and a client whose a bit of a knob. If it’s that easy and small and shouldn’t cost that much then do it yourself. Either that or stop being a tight arse. This model where the cheapest bid wins is fucked up and is literally driving contractors of all sizes into bankruptcy, ISG have literally just gone into administration because of this very reason.

It’s probably because they’re absolutely sick to the back teeth of going to jobs, quoting, then not getting the job, or losing the job to someone who is less experienced but can “do it cheaper”, having customers not pay invoices, having customers complain that work is “noisy” when they’re having work done, getting brought on to bigger jobs as sub contractors then not getting paid there and generally getting fucked about by the general public.

What level of income do you believe you’d feel like you’d “made it”?

35m… My joint monthly income has dropped from close to £5k a month to £3.5k in London, and now we have nursery fees… far from ideal but it has changed my perspective about life financially. We have to be careful now with proper financial planning and it gets tough at times but I know it won’t last forever and things will get better. Ive just left a public sector job into the private sector so taken a bit of a pay cut initially but it should pick up fairly quickly. I guess the point I’m trying to make is now, for me, it’s less about how much I earn but the quality outside of being worried about money.

I’m 16, I probably won’t get my GCSEs and I have missed the deadline for college. Have I majorly screwed my life over?

Join the Army. They’ll pay for all that for you, pay for you to travel, you’ll get a bit of a pension and you can get a trade if you want to. Or you can just stack bodies… up to you.

Do British People Hate Meetings?

I fuckin hate a meeting. They’re important but they are over used as a tool. I especially hate that one fucking goober who will use 45 words when 5 will do, and then they will repeat themselves so that everyone knows they are either a) super smart b) super important (you aren’t) and/or c) still breathing

How to deal with hating going “out out”?

If that’s what he enjoys and wants to do with his limited freedom, then thats fine, but maybe there should be a degree of compromise. Ie no shit night club… but definitely try and start earlier and get him out for a meal then you might be able to easily avoid the night club. But even then, a dodgy kebab and a scrap down the taxi rank, what’s not to love?!
