Your goal rn is to get your cfi and do a good job as a cfi so people want to actually pay to fly with you. As far as cadet programs go. Don’t join if they require you to get a loan. You got a long long long way to go. Focus on what’s in front of you.

Suggestions for flying schools

I’m a flight instructor out of van nuys, feel free to dm me if you want to schedule a tour of my flight school. A lot of these schools are shady and will sell you all sorts of dreams that don’t really exist. We have an honest business with competitive rates.

Quitting a $140k/yr Desk Job to Flight Instruct

Severe_Elderberry769@reddit

Keep the job. From what I’ve gathered, Cfi job opportunities are gonna stay slim for at least another 6 months. That should be plenty of time to get your instructor ratings while working your job.

CFII is hard

Severe_Elderberry769@reddit

Instrument is easier to relearn. I notice it’s harder for people to grasp initially because it’s abstract, but the actual sheer amount of information is way less than the cfi initial.

why choose a 141?

Posted by Wise_Scarcity2312@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 35 comments

Severe_Elderberry769@reddit

If you can’t make enough money to pay your way through a 61 and you’re willing to take a predatory loan that will ruin you financially for the foreseeable future, then you go 141.

Between someone with the same experience as you with a degree and you without a degree, they’ll pick the person with a degree. You may get weeded out by a computer when you apply to some places.

Failed my PAR with a 65...

Posted by Top-Succotash-7911@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 114 comments

Severe_Elderberry769@reddit

Yes and no. Degrees can be broken up into 2 categories: stupid people degrees and smart people degrees. Stupid people degrees check a box and honestly those people shouldn’t be pilots either imo. Smart people degrees matter, are competitive, and require more effort to get through. If nothing else, they improve the way people think and their overall intuition. Those people should be allowed the privilege to fly.
