What do British, and especially English people, think of Ireland and the Irish?

Remote-Interview-521@reddit

Maybe they're just rage bait? But your average right winger type Brit thinks they are better than the Irish. That's generally the older population but it trickles down. The main problem ? Brits know little of their own history amd most know nothing about Anglo Irish affairs. They have also never been under the boot of anyone else. Those who take some time to educate themselves, well they tend to be much easier to talk to.

What age did you move out from your parents place?

As long as you have a nice place to live and are doing OK, don't worry about it. I have many friends who are older and have never moved out. They either can't afford it or simply like being there. Definitely better than spending every penny on bills.

If you could be 18 again, would you take the offer?

When I was 18 the world was a better place, with so many options and places you could just go live in. You could easily get jobs overseas, rent was ressonable and there were great opportunities. The world today is a very different place. If I had to be back living with my old man at 18, that's a hard no. Once was enough.

Curious foreigner here, what do middle-class Brits brag (or humble-brag) about to their neighbours?

Nothing more boring than someone trying to impress me with attempted bragging. You've got a boat/bike/vhs player? Great. Now go tell someone who cares. Come back when you have something interesting and insightful to say. The point here is: good people will give you far more respect if you do good deeds and don't mention it to anyone. Materialiatic people are making up for their dull lives. My neighbour is Indian and absolutely loves to brag about his kids but I just play along because he's getting old and doesn't get to chat to many people. Eventually I change the subject to something amusing so we can have a laugh. I know money is everything in some cultures but those that actually have real success in life will rarely brag about it.

What happens to entertainment and leisure when people just don't have disposable money?

I lived in an area where the pubs had been half empty for more than a decade. That's just the norm now. Some pubs did better because they put in more effort. But the only really busy areas were those with well maintained and populated high streets, but even they seemed to have lost their way and there was not much of an atmosphere anywhere, despite being busy. So, plenty of people still have money to spend but they are most likely spending less or not going out quite so much. We've had barely any growth for years and this is the norm now. End days of consumerism - unless you are loaded.

When do you open your windows to prevent mould?

Remote-Interview-521@reddit

You can leave the windows open a little most of the time, until it gets really cold. Do that in two separate rooms to create that continuous airflow. Too much furniture, furniture close up against external walls, drying clothes indoors etc will all increase moisture, as will long showers without an extractor or open window. But some buildings are poorly designed or there are leaks somewhere causing the damp. Our house smelled a bit damp when we moved in but after a summer of good airflow, it's all good now.

If money was no object, where would you like to live in the UK?

I'm a Londoner so somewhere in easy reach of one of the world's best cities. As long as I could have a big garden. Give me somewhere like Hampstead, Highgate Village, St John's Wood etc. I've lived in different parts of the UK and if I couldn't live in or near London, I would move abroad.

He was funny a long time ago. Saw him live around 2018 and he was terrible. Now seems to rely on his fake loud laugh to get noticed. But lots of people take money from the Saudis...boxers, footballers, anyone taking part in any event over there. What about nurses who go to work there? Are they also taking blood money?

Driving thru Cali is nice. Remember that you pay for fuel in advance and to ensure you select petrol as I think the diesel nozzles are green? There are very few roundabouts. You can drive long distances quite quickly. Avoid staring at people or getting into road rage incidents - they might have guns. Most drivers are actually far better behaved than in the UK except that nobody wants to let you out at junctions. The worst place I drove was LA. Some maniacs on the I5 and 405. Lots of tailgating. Watch out for toll roads - I don't remember seeing any in CA on my last trip but FLA had lots. Of course remember that you'll be driving on the right..you'll get used to that quickly but stay focused when you first get in the car as that is when so many tourist accidents happen. Take it real easy for the first day. Stay close to the centre of the road to avoid hitting parked car mirrors. My trick is to keep the while/yellow line in the bottom corner of the windscreen. That's always safe road position. Enjoy your trip!

I would sell most of my belongings and buy a fully loaded RV and travel across Europe. Starting in spring, I would get going and ensure I had planned a whole bunch of rock festivals, staying in my RV all the way. I'd ask a friend to stay in my house to look after it while I'm gone. Maybe do this for a few years and visit a few other places. Having an EU passport means I could stay gone for a long time. I think that eventually I would settle in Europe somewhere nice, sell the UK pad and occasionally pop back to the UK to see how shit it has become.

Was the uk in the 90s genuinely more fun and united, or are we just getting old?

Of course the 90s were better. Music was insanely good in that period. We had gigs going off all over the place with cheap tickets, the rave scene was huge, beer was £1.50 a pint, the economy was in very good shape (mid 90s onwards) and of course, we were all young and good looking, with the world at our feet. The prospects for working and middle classes back then were also much better, with property being affordable and people having much more disposable income. We didn't have the internet...and we didn't need it.

Junkies only understand two things in these situations - serious threat of violence or making it a bit difficult for them to get in. They can be quite resourceful so if you can get together with your fellow neighbours and maybe speak to some security experts, they will be able to help you. Whatever the cost, take the management company to court (small claims) and they will likely cough up. Just keep them informed and insist your safety is at stake. Keep records and get as many as you can to join in. If it costs you £100 each, that's a bargain. Plus, you will claim it back. Useless management companies need to be fired and sued for incompetence.
