Taking out a reverse mortgage

My brother, who will pass away between now and the fall, signed up for a reverse mortgage. According to him, so long as my sister-in-law is alive, she won't have to sell. I've never seen documentation to confirm this, but I hope it's the truth. His son and grandson are living at the house too.

It could be, but it could also be recognizing that civilization is in decline after a nice run of improvement. If you're wandering around with a smile on your face come hell or high water you're either unaware or just dim.

I've seen others comment that your work ethic is commendable. I agree. I just don't channel all my work ethic into my job. I trade my effort for pay to fund the parts of my life that matter. And plenty of it is uncompensated, but valuable, work.

Am I being unreasonable?

That's my experience. Even when I pick up one of my kids early because they're sick or have an appointment, I ring a video doorbell, show my ID, and then stand there until they send my kid out. I understand the need for security, but I'm not going through it just to grab a jacket. I'll pick it up at a formal school function if I remember.
