Damn.... I felt this. It was strawberries and cornflakes for me. It was considered a luxury when I was young and we would make sure to eat just 1 strawberry each and make the box of cereal last for a month.

Damn I can relate to this so much. McDonald's was a treat for us when I was a kid. We only went there if it was my birthday. I can't believe I'd bring my son there 2 -3x a month just so we can bond over mcflurry ice cream.

Being anxious about money and how much things cost is a hard habit to get rid off when you've been struggling for half of your life. I still don't eat in fancy restaurants because my head can't wrap my head around spending £25 for just fish and chips when I can just buy it from Aldi and make it at home. I do hoard food though. I am always anxious about not having enough food for the next 2 weeks. So I buy 2 of everything. I hoard soy sauce from the asian grocery shop. I have 4 unopened bottles in the cupboard. 🤣

We were using a 2nd hand fridge from gumtree for the past 10 years. It came with us from when we were renting up to buying our first home. I didn't consider having our home as proof of being out of poverty as we had to move to a low cost of living and a low cost housing area just so we can be comfortable and not live paycheck to paycheck. But when the fridge died a few days ago and we were able to buy the new fridge cash, that's the time it hit. I was so happy.

What totally irrational rule did your family have growing up?

Masterofsnacking@reddit

Not allowed to watch movies in the cinema but allowed to watch said movies in television/pirated dvd's/vhs. Family is next level crazy religious and thinks the cinema is a haven for sin. Said that if you were in the cinema, you are forced to watch and you cannot stop it or pause it. 🤣🤣🤣 When I was young, I always told my parents, I can close my eyes if I wanted. Got a whopping for answering back.

Seems like ADHD and autism are suddenly everywhere - what's your opinion?

The problem with autism and ADHD diagnosis before was, they think you would look and act a certain way. But what we have learned now is that, it is a diverse set of characteristics ranging from mild to severe. It just so happens that more people are aware and willing to learn now compared to before. But that doesn't mean there were less cases before.

I think it depends on what you want to do for vacation. For example, I went to Paris because of Comic Con. I went to the Comic con first, had a great time and then went to see the Eiffel tower before going home. But that was it. I enjoyed Paris because I like what I wanted to do there. I didn't bother with the instagrammable places because I don't care about them. When me and my partner travel, we tend to research where and what we want to eat. The tourist places were a bonus. The food was the main reason to go. We would spend so much money trying different foods that we have never heard before and is the best part of travelling for us. I think when you travel, you have to know what you want to do and not what you expect other people to do.

It's common now but it's also common not to go. Just be honest and say you cannot afford it. My friend's bachelorette was in Turkey, I didn't go but went to her wedding which was abroad as well.

My son has autism and most of the traits he showed, I had them when I was growing up so I suspect I am. I am not planning to get diagnosed as I have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression with panic attacks more than 10 years ago and they are linked together anyway. I have developed strategies already and coping mechanisms to manage my traits so I don't see any further advantage on getting a confirmation. I'll just focus on helping my son instead.

The Chinese takeaway next door provided me CCTV footage which helped me get stolen property back; their English sucks so I don't know anything about them or where they are from. What small gift can I give them to say thank you?

The usual stuff really, apples, orange, grapes or strawberries. Buy a hamper kit from hobby craft, around £5? then make your own fruit hamper. Whenever we visit my husband's family, this is our go to. Cheap and easy.

This is the way. Same amount for everyone, let them choose. If it was me and there were half portions of everything, I would take half portions of so I could have a taste of everything and not go over the budget. Hahahaha
