I was gonna say: that guy knew how to play to his audience! Dropping a line like ‘Louder Than War’ in front of the Manics pretty much guarantees you a song title or something.

If you haven’t read up on the Moors Murders… ..then don’t. You really are better off not knowing. Same as Fred and Rosemary West. There are no positives in knowing the detail of their depravity. Just leave it.

My feminist father, who enjoys YouTube videos of luggage conveyor belts and things being made, is turning 70! What do I give him?

Master_Block1302@reddit

What about some kinda Meccano kit thing where he can construct a complicated mechanism? Sorta like Lego Technic, but not costing £18,499 Or, if he’s a proper feminist, maybe you could just sit there and listen to him whine on about men. Either one would work.

Ahh, good on you. No kidding, it works better than Zyban and Champix in my experience. Out of interest, how much did you pay. It used to be like £12 per box, then last year it suddenly jumped massively in price for some reason.

Be careful with them though, and don’t rely on them. I bought one off Amazon, and after a few tries with it, we did a slightly controlled trial, measuring how much I’d had to drink, timing tests, taking readings etc. the results made no sense at all.

Could your parents afford Sky growing up?

Posted by discoveredunknown@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 474 comments

Master_Block1302@reddit

Yes, but it was regarded as a bit vulgar, so we never had it. Boggles the mind nowadays, how much TV we all used to watch. My kids are utterly post-TV. I could remove the tv and Sky and they wouldn’t even notice. I’m not suggesting that they spend their whole time reading Kant and translating Plutarch into Sanskrit. They skip TV in favour of TikTok and Snapchat. I wish that would actually watch *a bit more* TV.

I dunno. He often talked about his uncle Jamal. That doesn’t come across as awfully white. I think it was more about Asian lads cosplaying black lads, but even typing that makes me fear some kinda cancellation. I lived in NW London at the time Ali G launched, and he was super recognisable. Happy to be corrected though. I’m white as they come, so what do I know?

How often do you/your friends attend pro football matches?

Posted by shesellseychelles@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 127 comments

Master_Block1302@reddit

I’ve never been a staunch fan, but back before the kids came along, I’d do about 8 home games and say 2 away per season for my club, and then I’d go to a few games where my team wasn’t involved; freebies and so forth. Now, approximately zero. Maybe one per season.

So if I come to you with a slightly chipped tooth, do you insist that we either do nothing or extract the tooth? So as not to be ‘in limbo’. Or do you make a more nuanced decision based on chances of success, price, effort etc? Might it not be better to try work an optimal approach, based on both NHS and private resources?

What would be the best way to do it? Obviously, in terms of you getting a decent wage, and NHS spend being reasonable? I’m not talking about ‘how quickly can you get a Lambo?’
