Do you have a plan for what you would do if criminals broke into your house whilst you were there? Like do you have a designated safe room, or other plan of action?

I don't off the top of my head, other than handguns are still legal for personal protection, used particularly by ex-police/journalists for obvious reasons, although I would hope that is less used now but is still the law.

You're not allowed to prepare for your own self-defence in Great Britain (NI has slightly different rules), so no cricket/baseball/whatever bats beside the bed, way too obvious. On an unrelated note, if you're like me and get frequent power cuts, a [sturdy torch with long-life batteries](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KYS6XD2) near your bed is always handy...

Tradespeople, what ‘goodies’ do you always appreciate?

Not tradespeople, but I've had the police round a few times recently (long story, as the victim). They never want tea of coffee, but more than happy to tuck in to my digestives!
